The Dream
Animal & Me Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to Animal & Me's song The Dream are about a person who sets out from their home without any destination in mind. The sun stubbornly follows them, casting their shadow behind them as they walk. They arrive at a place they don't recognize, standing on a rock and waiting. As they turn around, they realize that they have ended up in a dark place far away from where they started.
The person doesn't know what kind of tree they were under or what kind of flowers were blooming, but they know they will return. They don't have to hope or wish for it to happen, but they have an unwavering certainty that they will come back. The dream continues on, and everyone is alive in it.
The song could be interpreted as a metaphor for life's journey without any clear path or direction. The person in the song is wandering aimlessly but still has a driving force propelling them forward. They don't know what to expect or where they will end up, but they have an unwavering faith that they will make it back to a familiar place. The dream could symbolize hope and the will to persevere through life's uncertainties.

Lyrics:
I dreamed a dream in times gone by
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed, that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame
And still I dream he'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather
I had a dream my life would be So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

@12Tale yes I do call it evolution
12Tale
@Doobie07 what evolution are u talking about??
One that degraded and exploited environment so far that most of the animals are at brink of extinction, forests are reduced to spots, global warming.
You call this evolution??
We are destroying our own home the name of evolution.

The part that always get me is the baby seal, accepted his death.
✨CamiloMadrigal✨
@BlancBaily I haven't seen anyone say that. This person simply said that was the part that got them, as in the part that made them cry the hardest, because they are sad at the idea of how the animal gave up all hope
BlancBaily
@✨CamiloMadrigal✨ I feel bad for all the animals equally, all of their deaths were sad. I find it slightly shameful to people who says the seal’s death was the saddest.
✨CamiloMadrigal✨
@BlancBaily They never said they didn't feel bad for the other animals, just that the fact that it showed giving up on trying anymore was really sad. I'm sure that if that situation was with any other animal it would have been just as sad. I don't get why you are trying to create an argument over someone's opinion anyway.
