Anita Lipnicka (b. 1975 in Poland) started her career as a vocalist in one of the most successful bands of the 90s “ VARIUS MANX”. She wrote almost all the lyrics for two albums, which sold over a million copies in Poland. Several songs from that period became hymns for a generation. They were compared to the likes of The Cardigans or The Cranberries, and received many prestigious awards. Anita became the biggest pop star in Poland and suddenly decided to quit the band to pursue a solo career. She left for London, where in 1996 she started working on new songs for her first solo album with well known session musicians and the record producer Danny Schogger. The album, accurately titled “Anything Can Happen” was released in Poland in 1996 and sold over 400.000 copies. Over the next few years she toured extensively, recorded two new albums and . . . searched for a new musical direction. In 2002 she and John Porter recorded a ballad “For You” written for his album “Psychodelikatesy”. It was the first step towards an amazing turn in their careers.
When John Porter (b. 1950, Wales) started collaborating with Anita, he had already been a legend in his own right. John was instrumental in creating the Polish rock scene in the 70s as one of the founders of MAANAM, and later, at the turn of the decade, founder of PORTER BAND - the most seminal rock group at that time. Their debut album “Helicopters” became a cornerstone for Polish rock music. Like Anita, John left the band at the peak of its career and worked on numerous solo projects (12 albums). Then, in 2002, he invited Anita to record with him a ballad, “For You” and this marked the beginning of their songwriting partnership.
Currently Anita & John are busily working on material for their third album which they hope to record in Poland with a western producer. Apart from that they have a beautiful year old daughter – Pola, who has given them a new dimension to their work and life.

Cover that crystal ball, that bloodshot eye
Let the last out turn off the light
But don't lock the door, there's someone still inside
A silly bride for a silly day
The guests they came
The guests they went away
What are we missing
Whose memories are we kissing
From our soul to your fingertips
Melt down that key to your broken heart
They never gave you a chance to even start
Too much sadness and your shadow will die
Hang out your tears to let them dry
She's on fire but got frozen lips
The life she could have would never fit
She walks through the forest singing nursery rhymes
All the leaves on the trees whisper - " once upon a time . "
The lyrics of "Missing" by Anita Lipnicka & John Porter are very emotional and deep, as the words paint a vivid picture of a heartbroken and lost soul. The opening lines, "Nail the stars across that wooden sky, Cover that crystal ball, that bloodshot eye," suggest a sense of trying to escape from pain and find solace in fantasy or a higher power. However, the lyrics also suggest a sense of isolation with the lines "Let the last out turn off the light, But don't lock the door, there's someone still inside," hinting at a desire to be alone and yet not completely cut off from the world.
The second verse seems to address the sense of regret and longing for what could have been, starting with the lines "A silly bride for a silly day, The guests they came, The guests they went away." These lines suggest that the singer is looking back on a failed relationship or perhaps a missed opportunity, and wondering what could have been. The repeated question of "What are we missing, Whose memories are we kissing, From our soul to your fingertips," reinforces this sense of loss and searching.
The final verse is perhaps the most poignant, with lines like "Melt down that key to your broken heart, They never gave you a chance to even start," suggesting a sense of hopelessness and despair. The idea of hanging out one's tears to dry is both heartbreaking and hopeful, suggesting that even in the midst of pain and loss, there is a possibility of healing and moving forward. The last two lines, "She walks through the forest singing nursery rhymes, All the leaves on the trees whisper - 'once upon a time'," suggest a return to childhood innocence and imagination as a way of coping with the harsh realities of life.
Overall, "Missing" is a powerful and moving song that speaks to the human experience of loss, longing, and the search for meaning and connection.
