Even at a very young age she was already performing. Her first big hit came in 1976, when she released her début song The Alternative Way together with Hans Vermeulen. The record reaches the 1st place in the charts and also her next songs will become a huge success.
Slowly her success descents and she changes record label in 1980. There she gets a fresh new group of people to guide her and there her third single Why Tell Me Why (1981) dominates position 1 in the charts for weeks and it became the best sold record of that year in The Netherlands. This is the true beginning of a booming music career.
In 1983 she performs for the first time with Lee Towers. The record sales diminish slightly in the next period, but in 1986 she records the chart breaker Run To Me with Lee Towers. This will also be her last Top 10 hit in The Netherlands. Still, her albums and concert tickets sell very well. By the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s she performs several times in the completely sold out Ahoy' (a huge concert hall in the city of Rotterdam).
In 2005 she's back in the spotlights by appearing as a team captain in the tv show Het Gevoel Van. In May 2006 she's on stage at the big musical event of Musicals in Ahoy'. Later she will appear as Grizabella in the Dutch version of the musical Cats. Of the five actresses who play this part, she gets to play in the première.
In 2008 she does a series of guest performances for the Luchtmachtkapel in the concert series Hollywood In Concert. She did this together with Lee Towers.
Just Once
Anita Meyer Lyrics

'Cause here we are back where we were before
Seems nothing ever changes
We're back to being strangers
Wondering if we ought to stay
Or head on out the door
[CHORUS]
Can we figure out what we keep doing wrong
Why we never last for very long
What are we doing wrong
Just once
Can't we find a way to finally make it right
To make the magic last for more than just one night
If we could just get to it
I know we could break through it
I gave my all, but I guess my all may have been too much
'Cause, Lord knows, we're not getting anywhere
It seems we're always blowing
Whatever we've got going
It seems at times with all we've got
We haven't got a prayer
[REPEAT CHORUS]
I know we could break through it
If we could just get to it
[BRIDGE]
Just once I want to understand
Why it always comes back to goodbye
Why can't we get ourselves in hand
And admit to one another
We're no good without each other
Take the best and make it better
Find a way to stay together
Just once
Can we find a way to finally make it right
To make the magic last for more than just one night
I know we could break through it
If we could just get to it, just once
Ohohoh
We can get it it
Just once
The lyrics to Anita Meyer's song "Just Once" tell the story of a couple who keeps finding themselves in the same place they were before, with nothing seeming to change. They wonder if they should stay together or leave. The chorus expresses their desire to figure out what they are doing wrong and find a way to make things work. The bridge delves deeper into their frustration, with the singer wanting to understand why they always seem to end up saying goodbye and why they can't admit that they need each other. Despite their problems, they believe that if they work together, they can make it work.
The song captures the feeling of two people who are struggling in their relationship and are desperately seeking a way to make things work. They are acknowledging that they make mistakes, but they're not quite sure what they're doing wrong. The lyrics express their desire to make their love last and to find a way to stay together. The song can resonate with anyone who has been in a relationship where things just don't seem to work out, and they keep finding themselves back where they started.
