Is It True
Anita Skorgan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I thought I caught a glimpse of you
I thought I saw your face
as the Sunday morning due
melted every trace
Did you walk the earth in vain
conquering the dead
or did life make you forget
the crown upon your head
Is it true what they say
Are you coming back someday
Is it true what they
About you
If it's true will you be
A guiding light to me
and the few that still believe
You went missing from our life
you're nowhere to be seen
not in heaven not on earth
but somewhere in a dream
Tell me how you see the world
Watching from afar
Is this all that we can be
Is this who we are
Is it true what they say
Are you coming back someday
Is it true what they
About you
If its true will you be
A guiding light to me
and the few that still believe
If its true will you be
A guiding light to me

and the few that still believe
For few that still believe

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Anita Skorgan's song "Is It True" revolve around the idea of someone who has gone missing from the lives of the people around them. The song begins with the singer mentioning how they thought they saw the person they are addressing, but it turns out to be just an illusion. The lyrics then go on to speculate about the missing person's whereabouts and ponder if they will ever return.

The singer questions whether the person they are addressing conquered the dead or if they have forgotten their own potential. They wonder if the rumors about the person's return are true and if they will act as a guiding light for those who still believe in them. The lyrics are tinged with a sense of longing and uncertainty, with the singer wondering how the person they are looking for sees the world now that they are no longer a part of it.

This song's emotional resonance is amplified by Skorgan's delivery, which is heartfelt and sincere. The plaintive melody of the song emphasizes the sense of loss and sadness in the lyrics, while the slow tempo and sparse instrumentation give the song a haunting quality.

This song was recently sung by Lene Marlin in the Norwegian TV-series "Hver gang vi møtes" (Each time we meet). What a beautiful song!! And while Marlin certainly did an excellant and touching version, I still prefer Anita's own. Her soft and clear voice and delicate piano playing is so perfect for this melody. This is definitely my favorite Skorgan song. Thanks a lot for posting this video!
