Thanks for posting, the shot angles are amazing. And though this scene is basically a watered-down parody of real art movements of the late 60s/early 70s, it's still visually interesting, the DP must have had such a blast figuring out how to execute these angles while not interupting the natural action. A fun fact: acrylic paint first became widely available in 1965, so prior to then this scene wouldn't have been even possible (as oil paints are severely toxic, dye the skin and can't be thinned with water to make a swirly soup).

@57buickcentury Imagine how it must have smelled after a few hours under the studio lights!

Yes, that shot at 5:10 must have been especially tough to get - she's dragging herself by grabbing the guys' ankles, they're trying to keep from slipping as she goes, and you have a cameraman on a dolly being pulled backwards on a twisting, slippery path trying to stay close. Note how it goes out of focus at the end - might have been the best take they could get! Per Teri Garr, the paint was actually pudding mixed with food coloring - probably with something else mixed in to give it the runny texture.

I saw this scene on TV as a kid..Ann Margaret's dance awakened something in me at that young age. Even now when I see her in a movie or something, i have to stop in my tracks and just look at her... Still sexy at 76.

@AMfan076 For a while there, it looked as if Ann-Magret was going to make a career of getting covered in messy gooey stuff.

Ha. Ditto. I stumbled upon this scene while channel surfing late one night back in the days before cable with only three local channels to choose from. Mid '60s A-M was a revelation to a pre-pubescent me. She made me tingle in places which up until then I didn't even know I had. No doubt legions of boys from those days have similar A-M stories.

That's what her beans and chocolate scene did for me in Tommy. I've been in love with her ever since.

Still hoping that there will be a DVD/Blu-ray release of this film one day.

The "paint dance" sequence in the original theatrical release runs a bit over seven minutes, but it got drastically cut down for television.  The version you see here isn't quite complete -- there's a bit missing at around the 0:02 mark where the little guy says, "She's ready, Emile!"

Yes, I started the recording early and paused it - I just wanted to get this scene and put it on the blank space at the end of another movie; wasn't sure I had enough tape left.
