Fuel
Ann Beretta Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just another boy fueled by the revolution, Just another unlucky soul left for you to tread on, Just another one living in this mass confusion, Just another empty hearted soul left for you to burn! Automatic is the way that she moves, It's an illusion, And in time I think I'll believe that it was good to know you, So I live by my words and my own convictions, But for now I'll have to believe I'm living to learn. So hard to forgive what I could never forget, When your words they cut so deep, So I pick the scabs with nothing left to lose, You know I've got the scars to prove. So hard to forgive what I could never forget, When your words they cut so deep, So I pick the scabs with nothing left to lose, You know I've got the scars to prove. Just another boy fueled by the revolution, Just another unlucky soul left for you to tread on, Automatic is the way that she moves, It's an illusion, And in time I think I'll believe that it was good to know you. So hard to forgive what I could never forget, When you're words they cut so deep, So I pick the scabs with nothing left to lose, You know I've got the scars to prove.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ann Beretta's song "Fuel" seem to express the feelings of a person who has been hurt and let down by someone they trusted. The singer portrays themselves as "just another boy fueled by the revolution," suggesting that they were once caught up in a passionate cause or movement, but have now lost faith in it. They feel like an "unlucky soul left for [the other person] to tread on," implying that they have been mistreated or disregarded by someone they once looked up to or believed in.

The singer is also struggling with confusion and a sense of emptiness, expressing that they are "living in this mass confusion" and feeling like they are "just another empty-hearted soul left for [the other person] to burn." The mention of an "illusion" suggests that the singer may have been misled or deceived by the other person in some way, and that they are still trying to come to terms with this realization.

Despite their pain and disillusionment, the singer asserts that they are living by their own convictions and are committed to learning from their experiences. However, they acknowledge that forgiveness is a difficult thing to come by, especially when wounds run so deep. The mention of scars suggests that the singer has been hurt before and is taking steps to heal and move on, even if it means exposing themselves to further pain.

Overall, the lyrics of "Fuel" convey a sense of disillusionment and emotional turmoil, as the singer grapples with the aftermath of a painful experience. The song seems to suggest that, even in the face of adversity and betrayal, it is possible to hold onto a sense of self and find a way forward.

I bought this album from Ann Beretta in 1997 at a bar in Pensacola Florida called Sluggos. They were really cool. Seems like a long time agon now.

@downtttempo

I grew up in Pensacola. Saw these guys at Sluggos and The Nite Owl. Are you from Pensacola or did you just see the show there?

@zerofatzunlisted2140

@insight I just saw the show there because I was in the Navy, stationed at the Naval Hospital in Pcola at that time. Was really into the local music scene back then. I guess technically I was living there. But I'm not from Pcola man, I'm from Ohio. I do consider that place like a second home though. Great town man.
