Before the age of nineteen this Southland girl had already been mentored by many of New Zealand's top producers, opened for Kelly Clarkson and The Script before eighteen, at seventeen honed her songwriting skills on a U.S. scholarship that took her to Nashville and the South By South West festival in Texas, and won the Smokefree Rockquest Female Musician Award and Play It Strange competition at sixteen and fifteen respectively.
Born and raised on a sheep farm in Tokanui - 60 kilometres south east of Invercargill, Annah has fond memories of singing with her two younger sisters at local jam-nights supported by the tight-knit township. Annah's childhood was also filled with countless family jams on road-trips and Australasian-wide adventures, including annual visits to the Tamworth Country Music Festival in New South Wales. By nine she had already won her first of three Gore Gold Guitar Awards.
Annah says that her songs are a mix of personal experiences and stories told from the perspectives of close friends - a sentiment that is clearly reflected in the lyrics of her debut album, 'Little Stranger'. Annah recorded the majority of the album at Roundhead studios with internationally renowned American producer Brady Blade, working with Josh Fountain from Kidz In Space at Woodcut Studios, and Wayne Bell and Ben King at The Lab to finish other tracks.

It started out great
We were staying up late
Hanging out in the park till 2
Then you met your boyfriend
Left all of your girlfriends
Everybody's talking 'bout you...
Hey Celia
Hey Celia
Hey Celia
Hey Celia
Since the whole big showdown
I've been on the low-down
We used to have our time too
Oh but you're hanging out with his friends
Baggin' all your girlfriends
Crying when he doesn't call you...
I've been putting in good words for ya
But everybody's talking 'bout ya
Girl I don't know what we're gonna do
They've written on all the bus stop windows
Caught you on video
They've got some new names for you...
Hey Celia
Hey Celia
Hey Celia
Hey Celia
This used to be our town
Now it's just a ghost town
With no one and nothing to do
Your messing with your girlfriends
Chasing all their boyfriends
Hey Girl what's happened to you?
Hey Celia
Hey Celia
Hey Celia
Hey Celia
Oh I've been putting in good words for ya
But everybody's out to get ya
Girl I don't know what we're gonna do
They've written on all the bus stop windows
Caught you on video
They've got some new names for you...
Oh I'm calling on the phone (HEY CELIA)
And it says you're not at home
When I know you're up there crying and blue
Oh don't feel you don't belong (HEY CELIA)
Keep your heap up and be strong
Girl I'll always be here waiting for you
Hey Celia
The lyrics of Annah Mac's song "Celia" tell a story of a friendship that fell apart due to the influence of a new boyfriend. The song starts by painting a picture of how great things were between the two friends. They would stay up late, hang out at the park, and enjoy each other's company until one day Celia met her boyfriend. From that moment on, Celia stopped spending time with her girlfriends, which caused a rift between her and her friends.
The chorus of the song centers on the phrase "Hey Celia", which is repeated several times throughout the song, signifying how the singer is trying to reach out to her friend, who has become distant. The singer tries to make things right and put in good words for Celia, but it seems like everyone in their town knows about her situation, and there are rumors and negative feedback associated with her new relationship.
The lyrics reveal the singer's frustration as she watches her friend change and alienate herself from the people who care about her. As the song progresses, the singer reveals that the town is now empty and how Celia chases after other people's boyfriends, which is a stark contrast to the good times they used to spend together. In the end, the singer makes an attempt to reach out to Celia and assures her that she will always be there waiting for her.
