After a chance meeting with an aspiring singer/songwriter, she managed to secure some studio time in Elton John's Rocket Studios, and, after hearing what she could do, she was subsequently picked up by Elton's management company Rocket Music. Anne-Marie released a demo in 2013 entitled Summer Girl, which drew some attention to the singer, most notably garnering a fan in Ed Sheeran. Despite the encouraging start to her solo career, things were put on hold to give her more time to develop as an artist.
Having guested on tracks by dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man, London-based garage duo Gorgon City, and progressive house trio Raized by Wolves, Anne-Marie caught the attention of Brit and MOBO award winners Rudimental. She was featured alongside Dizzee Rascal and Will Heard on two tracks from their second album, 2015's We the Generation, and spent two years touring with the band, playing some of the world's biggest stages and best-known festivals.
The summer of that year also saw the release of Anne-Marie's debut EP on Rudimental's then-new record label, Major Tom's. The aptly titled Karate EP featured three tracks and a Chloe Martini remix, and producers Josh Record and Two Inch Punch worked with her on the record. Both the lead single "Karate," a slick fusion of electro-grime and R&B, and the follow-up "Gemini," garnered some very positive reviews and led Anne-Marie to gigging as a solo artist. In early 2016, the single "Do It Right" reached the U.K. charts, and several months later "Alarm" hit the Top 40 in several charts around the world.
In 2017, Anne-Marie scored a hit single when she featured on Clean Bandit's multi-platinum "Rockabye" with Sean Paul. The song topped the charts across Europe and in Australia, breaking into the Top Ten in Canada and the U.S. She followed with the solo singles "Ciao Adios" and "Heavy," which both charted in the U.K. and Ireland. Both tracks appeared on her debut full-length, Speak Your Mind, which saw release in April 2018. The record also featured the track "Friends," written and recorded with American dance producer Marshmello.

Cuando en la vida me encuentro triste
y siento tanta soledad
creo que todo está perdido
nada me puede consolar
cuando en la vida estoy deprimida
no se por donde caminar
no encuentro paz, ni un lugar sentido
La vida es un gran misterio
que no podemos descifrar
cuando en la vida te sientas triste
no te preocupes, todo cambiará
y si afrontamos dificultades
no te preocupes, pasará,(Bis)
no te preocupes.
Si lo que quieres no resulta
pensarás que todo está mal
pero algo que no te esperabas
te llena de felicidad
aunque des vueltas, sin un sentido
en cosas que nunca saldrán
la vida gira y sin darte cuenta
te muestra tu finalidad.
Pero la vida es un gran misterio
que no podemos descifrar
cuando en la vida te sientas triste
no te preocupes, todo cambiará
y si afrontamos dificultades
no te preocupes, pasará, (Bis)
no te preocupes.
Pregones
The lyrics to Anne-Marie's song "Viva la Vida" speak to the mysteries of life and the emotions that come with it. The song begins with a reflection on sadness and loneliness, feeling lost and without comfort. The singer expresses a sense of depression, not knowing which direction to take and finding no peace or meaning, only a desire to cry. It conveys a feeling of despair and hopelessness.
But the chorus brings a shift in perspective. It acknowledges that life is a great mystery that cannot be fully deciphered. It reassures the listener that even in times of sadness, everything will change, and difficult times will pass. The song encourages the listener not to worry, to trust that things will get better.
The second verse presents a contrast between the unexpected and the expected. It suggests that when what you want doesn't work out, you might believe that everything is going wrong. However, something unexpected and joyful may come along, bringing happiness even in the midst of confusion and things that don't make sense. The lyrics emphasize that life's journey unfolds without us fully realizing it, slowly revealing its purpose.
The recurring message in the song is that life is a great mystery, and we cannot fully understand it. It urges listeners to embrace the uncertainty and enjoy the moments of family, friendship, and happiness. It references a friend named Celia who believed that life is a carnival, suggesting that life should be celebrated and enjoyed.
Overall, "Viva la Vida" is a song that acknowledges the struggles and challenges of life but also offers hope, reminding us that no matter how difficult things may seem, change is inevitable and we should embrace the mysteries and joys that life brings.

I just wanna sing along with her
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"
One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

I've always loved your work... and this is one of my FAVORITE songs. I still remember how to play the boring low brass section for marching band... memories
@emilythomas4684
Oh man, lower brass for pop songs really sticks with you. I played tuba and could probably still play shut up and dance from memory. The parts are boring to play, but sure are catchy!
