Sailor, leave the sea
Sailor, when the tide turns
Come home safe to me
As you sail across the sea
All my love is there beside you
In Capri or Amsterdam
To the harbor of my heart
I will send my love to guide you
As I call across the sea
Come home to me
Anne Shelton's "Sailor" is a romantic ballad of a young woman who loves a sailor who roams the seas. The first verse of the song is an urgent plea from the woman to the sailor to stop his roaming and come home safe to her when the tide turns. The second verse expresses the woman's undying love for the sailor, who carries a part of her heart with him wherever he goes. She reassures him that no matter where he is, she will always be with him in spirit, sending her love to guide him back to her. The chorus is a call to the sailor to come home, back to her waiting arms. The entire song wistfully and lovingly expresses the feelings of separation and yearning felt by long-distance lovers.
The lyrics to "Sailor" are deeply emotional and carry a message of love and hope. The song is reminiscent of a time when war and ocean voyages kept lovers apart for extended periods of time. The singer's plea to her sailor is classic and timeless, capturing the essence of true love and devotion. Shelton's emotive and mellifluous voice adds to the poignancy of the song, making it a classic favorite of many.

Anne Shelton was one of the great crooners of yesteryear who sang beautifully the great songs of that time which alas are now forgotten. Great songs are strokes of genius and, like great paintings, if you do not preserve them, you lose them forever. Were it not for the wonder of YouTube and dedication of uploaders to it, we of a certain age who can remember the wonderful tunes of yesteryear and know what to look for, would have virtually no music at all, as it disappeared from the airwaves of radio stations decades ago.

I was reminded of Anne Shelton at a recent 40s concert. I think her voice is just beautiful and she sings so sensuously. No wonder the men all loved her.

Great enough to sing with the great Glenn Miller. Met her on a train back in the 50's, very nice, friendly lady.

After years of listening to many voices, many women sing, I heard Anne Shelton for the first time. I thought, "That's the most beautiful voice I've ever heard.". She deserves to be much more well known than she is.

Thanks so much for your comment, I think Anne is one the greatest singers Britain had ever produced. You don't duet with Bing and sing with Glenn Miller if you're not top notch. I have lots more of Anne uploaded with many more to come.

Reminds me of a time I never lived in... some songs have that ability. How I wish I was born in the 1940s-50s. I collect much vinyl, and this is one of my favourites.

The music of the 50s, 60s and 70s was the very best.....all downhill since.
