Dude in a Camera
Anomia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a dude in a camera
Talking 'bout what I should be
to look like him, like a perfect star
And now she's coming from the stairs
to make him fall in love with her
This time she won't
mistake in her minded plan
He looks her while she's dancing for the man
that she have ever dreamed in night
But now he says… he says…

Why don't you take my hand and kiss me?
Why don't you lie down on my bed now?
Is this the man that you was searchin'?
Well, he's so proud of being there now

Do you see lights of fame as you're burning out?

There's a boy in a discotheque
dressed up like someone else
that I've just seen on my TV screen.
He seems to be so worried
'bout the colour of the cocktail in his hand
"Would this
show up my new black pants?"
She looks at him, she winks at him
Hoping that this time he won't go away
But now he says… he says…

Why don't you take my hand and kiss me?
Why don't you lie down on my bed now?
Is this the man that you was searchin'?
Well, he's so proud of being there now

You won't see lights of fame as you're burning out!!!

Overall Meaning

The song "Dude in a Camera" by Anomia is about the unrealistic beauty standards that society places on individuals, through media and pop culture. The first verse talks about a person who is constantly comparing themselves to the perfection that is portrayed in the media. The "dude with a camera" is a reference to the fashion and beauty industry, which often sets impossible standards for people to follow. The woman in the song comes down the stairs hoping to make him fall in love with her by conforming to these standards. However, she soon realizes that conforming to these standards is not the way to happiness, and the man she is dancing for is not the man of her dreams. The chorus of the song talks about the man's attempts to seduce the woman, but despite his efforts, he is unable to make the connection he desires.

The second verse talks about a boy at a discotheque, who is dressed up like his favorite TV star. He is worried about the color of his cocktail, thinking about whether or not it will match his new black pants. The woman in question looks at him, hoping he won't go away this time. Once again, the chorus talks about the futility of trying to conform to societal beauty standards, as fame and fortune will ultimately burn out.
