Holy shit, I used to have a friend who swore up and down that his soccer team used to use this song in practice back in 1998 and I always told him that was impossible because the song didn't come out until 2000....this must have been the version he was talking about, he'd always thought it was the Baha Men. Mind blown.

I am originally Guyanese but grew up in the Bahamas. I once went to a hotel in Nassau where a band was playing soca and trying to tell all the US, UK and Canadian tourists this was Bahamian music but they made the mistake of calling up a Trinidadian girl I knew to the stage and she said on the mic she was from Trinidad, the REAL home of soca. The singer fell silent. HAHAHA

It's much better to my ears. I'm no dancehall fan but this song seems squarely in the middle of upbeat calypso and modern dancehall - besides, it just sounds less commercially produced. Can't think of a perfect term but it's one of those 'you know it when you hear it' things.

Bass Patrol sampled Hassan, and I misinterpreted the sample (never having heard the Hassan record, until recently). That's how this phrase came to be. I never have been credited nor paid.

It's actually staggering how far apart in style and substance this is compared to the Baha Men version, which has since overshadowed this version. The Baha Men version's like a commercial, pure pop version where in comparison to that, this might as well be avant-garde electro punk rock from the planet Galactica X84 (even if it isn't). ...funnily enough, I way prefer the latter option. In other words, the original's awesome. I wouldn't mind listening to more music like this, actually. Very fun!

@@yarnednomady5535 It's a complicated story. However the who let dogs line he got from his brother in law whom he had a verbal agreement with (they sorted that out in the end). However, turns out that Who let the dogs out or variations of had existed from other artists who also wanted a stake or at least listed as writers. Stranger still, Who let the dogs out had been used by school kids as a war cry in the 80s. Its a fascinating story.

Apart from that, the rest of the lyrics and the arrangement are by Anlsem.

This song was originally done by Anslem Douglas. The Baha men in the Bahamas making people feel the song originate in europe. They never once give him credit. Now the Bahamas trying to tell the world Carnival originate with them. They even thief the slogan. They getting rich off sampleing trini music and rhythms.
