Anthrax's lineup has changed numerous times over their career, leaving Ian as the only constant member of the band. The band has had a revolving cast of singers and lead guitarists, including Neil Turbin, John Bush, Dan Spitz and Rob Caggiano. Since 2013, the band has consisted of Ian, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, vocalist Joey Belladonna and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais. Ian and Benante (who replaced one-time drummer Greg D'Angelo in 1983) are the only two members to appear on every album, while Bello has been a member of Anthrax since 1984, replacing original bassist Dan Lilker. After two stints in Anthrax, from 1984 to 1992 and again from 2005 to 2007, Belladonna returned to the band in 2010.

It's Late
Anthrax Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And if I say I love you in the candlelight
There's no one but myself to blame
But there's something inside that's turning my mind away
Woah, I could love you if I could let you stay
(It's late) And I'm bleeding deep inside
(It's late) Is it just my stickly pride
(So late) Though I'm crying I can't help you but hear you say
(It's late, it's late, it's late)
(But not too late)
The way you love me is the sweetest love around
But after all this time, the more I'm trying
The more I seem to let you down, yeah
Now you tell me you're leaving
And I just can't believe it's true
Woah, you know that I can love you
Though you know I can't be true
Oh you made me love you
Don't tell me that we're through
(It's late) And it's driving me so mad
(It's late) Yes I know but don't try to tell me that it's
(Too late) Save our love you can't turn out the light
(So late) I've been wrong but I'll learn to be right
(It's late, it's late, it's late)
(But not too late)
I've been so long
You've been so long
We've been so long trying to work it out
I ain't got long
You ain't got long
We've gotta know what this life's all about
Try to work it out
Too late
Much too late
You're staring at me with suspicion in your eye
Was that a game you were playing?
What's this that your saying?
I know that I can't reply
If I take you tonight
Is it making my life a lie?
Oh you know you make me wonder
Did I live my life alright
(It's late) But it's time to set me free
(It's late) Yes I know but there's no way it has to be
(Too late) So let the fire take our bodies this night
(So late) So let the waters take our guilt in the tide
(It's late, it's late, it's late, it's late
It's late, it's late, it's late, it's late)
Oh, it's all too late
Too late, too late
It's all late
Ow
The lyrics of Anthrax's song 'It's Late' is about an uncertain and complex romantic relationship where the singer is torn between his deep-seated feelings for his lover and his inability to commit to the relationship fully. He admits that he hardly knows his lover's name but is still unable to control his own feelings. The singer acknowledges that his pride and emotions are getting in the way of their relationship, and he struggles to hold onto his love while she is packing her bags to leave him. He questions whether taking her tonight would make his life a lie and wonders if he has lived his life alright. In the end, the singer realizes that it's all too late, and the relationship has inevitably come to an end.
The song is a classic Anthrax heavy metal style, with powerful guitar riffs and energetic drumming. The band used a deeper and softer sound as compared to their earlier albums, which was a slight departure from their typical musical style.
