Anthrax's lineup has changed numerous times over their career, leaving Ian as the only constant member of the band. The band has had a revolving cast of singers and lead guitarists, including Neil Turbin, John Bush, Dan Spitz and Rob Caggiano. Since 2013, the band has consisted of Ian, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello, vocalist Joey Belladonna and lead guitarist Jonathan Donais. Ian and Benante (who replaced one-time drummer Greg D'Angelo in 1983) are the only two members to appear on every album, while Bello has been a member of Anthrax since 1984, replacing original bassist Dan Lilker. After two stints in Anthrax, from 1984 to 1992 and again from 2005 to 2007, Belladonna returned to the band in 2010.

Another day to reflect, I hope you understand
Looking for the sign that's let's me know
That you're fine
That you finally just found your way back home
Feel you within, feel you everywhere
So take me some place, where I will always know
That you're fine
That you finally just, found your way back home
Who's to tell me, I have to let it go
I need to say this, have to let you know
I will be here waiting for our souls to meet
I will be here waiting for your call to me
Anthony, I know you're home
Right beside me, all alone
Anthony, I have so much to say
In my heart, you will always remain
I'll never be alone
Maybe I'm blind, maybe I don't wanna see
I distinct this fight won't play for me
Let us just think that I will, I think I know
That you're fine
That you finally just, found your way back home
I question my faith, I question everything
I need to know if this is all there is
So take me someplace where I will always know
That you're fine
That you finally just, found your way back home
Who's to tell me, I have to let it go
I need to say this, have to let you know
I will be here waiting for our souls to meet
I will be here waiting for your call to me
Anthony, I know you're home
Right beside me, all alone
Anthony, I have so much to say
In my heart, you will always remain
Anthony, my brother, my friend
I'll be with you once again
Anthony, my heart owns your faith
It will always light your day
And never be alone
And never be alone
And never be alone
And never be alone.
The song "Pieces" by Anthrax is a tribute to the band's former lead guitarist Dan Spitz's younger brother Anthony, who passed away in 1995. The lyrics are about finding peace and solace after losing someone close to you, and hoping that they have found their way back home. The song expresses the pain and grief of losing a loved one but also the desire to keep their memory alive and honor them in some way.
The opening lyrics of the song speak of the sun shining off someone's face, and the hope that they have found their way back home. The songwriter is looking for a sign that their loved one has found peace and is okay. "Feel you within, feel you everywhere, your path in the sky, will get me everywhere" are lines that indicate the presence of the departed soul and that their memories will always be with us. The lyrics convey a sense of longing and the need to be reassured that their loved one has found eternal peace.
The chorus of the song is a heartfelt message to the deceased brother, letting him know that he will never be alone and that his memory will be cherished forever. The lyrics say "Anthony, I know you're home, right beside me, all alone. Anthony, I have so much to say, in my heart, you will always remain." The songwriter is conveying the message that even though their loved one is no longer with them, they will always hold a special place in their hearts and will never be alone.
