As of 2009, the band consists of Kristen Henderson on bass guitar/bg vocals, Cathy Henderson on lead guitar/bg vocals, Dena Tauriello on drums and Nini Camps on rhythm guitar and lead vocals.
The band is primarily known as a touring band, at one time performing 260 shows a year. They earned a dedicated fanbase early on that follows them from concert to concert along the East Coast and increasingly across the country. Fans refer to the band simply as "AR" or "Antigone".
Their first four albums were recorded mostly with independent labels and financed through fan donations. In 2003 they signed up with Lava Records after label president Jason Flom spotted them playing at one of their gigs. In 2005, they became the first artists to be promoted in Starbucks' Hear Music Series, created to discover and spotlight new music. The high visibility, exclusive sale, in-store promotion and airplay at Starbucks across the country helped the band's acoustic EP From the Ground Up sell over 450,000 copies by the end of 2005. The album's single, "Don't Look Back," was very popular among country audiences, and its video received heavy airplay on CMT.
Antigone Rising have shared the stage with Joan Jett, The Rolling Stones, moe., Rob Thomas, Aerosmith, The Allman Brothers and The Bangles[1]. They performed at Lilith Fair 1998 and SXSW 2005 and have co-written with Chris Trapper of The Push Stars and Rob Thomas.
Messiah Girl

Could change your mind
Make you stop
Make you fall out of line
Sit back
Start to count your things
What does it mean
How loud does the alarm have to ring?
I lay down you blow
Your wind in my soul
You lay down I know
Oh Messiah girl
Blur my vision
Heed your word
Oh Messiah girl
Bruise my ego
Rule my world
That Chicago morning burned my eyes
Now I am blind
From the brightest light that I've ever seen
If I'd read the cards right long ago
Might I have known
What the face down hand would bring
You lived while I learned
I bled while you burned
Savior save me
Now that you've got me on my knees
I beg for mercy
Does it get you off to watch me bleed?
Savior save me
The song "Messiah Girl" by Antigone Rising is a soulful and haunting piece about a person struggling with their faith and finding salvation through an all-knowing figure, the "Messiah girl". The lyrics start with the promise of "the truth" being unwound, something that could potentially change the listener's mind and make them stray from the path they have been on. The singer questions what it means and how loud the warning signs have to be before they make a change.
The second set of lyrics speaks directly to the "Messiah girl" who is viewed as a powerful force in the singer's life. They sing about the ability of this figure to "blur their vision," while being able to rule their world at the same time. The image of blindness is repeated in the third verse, with the singer being blinded by the brightest light they have ever seen. The final section of the song ends with the plea for mercy from the "Messiah girl," with the singer asking if it satisfies her to watch them suffer.
The lyrics of "Messiah Girl" can be interpreted in many different ways. It can be viewed as a spiritual struggle between faith and doubt, with the singer wrestling with their beliefs and searching for guidance. Alternatively, it could be seen as a relationship between two individuals, one of whom has a lot of power over the other. Regardless of the interpretation, the lyrics evoke a sense of longing and desperation for something greater than oneself.
