Dindi
Antonio Carlos Jobim; Frank Sinatra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sky, so vast is the sky, with far away clouds just wandering by,
Where do they go? oh I don't know, don't know;
Wind that speaks to the leaves, telling stories that no one believes,
Stories of love belong to you and to me.

Oh, dindi, if I only had words I would say all the beautiful
Things that I see when you're with me, oh my dindi.
Oh dindi, like the song of the wind in the trees, that's how my heart is
Singing dindi, happy dindi, when you're with me.

I love you more each day, yes I do, yes I do;
I'd let you go away, if you take me with you.

Don't you know, dindi, I'd be running and searching for you like a river that
Can't find the sea, that would be me without you, my dindi.
Can't find the sea that would be me without you dindi.

Like a river that can't find the sea, that would be me without you, my dindi.

Overall Meaning

"Dindi" is a sentimental and romantically charged song that speaks to the beauties of nature and the depth of the love shared between two people. The song highlights the vastness of the sky, and the carefree nature of the wandering clouds that travel across it. The wind also features prominently, the breeze speaks to the leaves, sharing tales that may not be believed by others. However, the stories of love belong to the singer and Dindi, and they hold deep meaning to them.

The lyrics then shift to focus on Dindi, a person who brings joy and happiness to the singer's life. The singer laments that they do not have enough words to express the beauty they see when in Dindi's company. The song goes on to compare the singer's heart to the song of the wind blowing through the trees; it is happy and singing when in the company of Dindi. The verses wrap up with the singer declaring their love and the depths to which they would go to stay with Dindi. They would go anywhere and do anything to remain by Dindi's side.

Dindi - (tradução)

Writer (s): Antonio Carlos Jobim

Surprising song in the voice of the greatest of all, Frank.

@antoniod

Nice that all the Sinatra/Jobim recordings are together. The intended second S-J album was truncated to 7 songs and released as half of "Sinatra and Company", with songs from other sessions folling out the second half, in 1971.
