Kun kävelit tyynesti nurmen taa
Hymyilit koko matkasi loppuun asti
Silmien edessä muutuitkin valoksi
Sinun äänesi jäi pihalle kaikumaan
Sinä rummutit peltikattoja
Taisit tietää, että sinua ei voi unohtaa
Kun istutit näitä sireenipensaita
Trumpetti soi meren luona
Sen svengi heiluttelee rantojen puita
Kun pimeys koskee veneesi pohjaa
Liian pian tulee ilta
Haaveeni on
Minun haaveni on
Haaveni on olla kaltaisesi
Oi Emmanuel
Sinä olit myyttinen sankari
Kaikki miehetkin sinua katseli
Kun kylän polkuja pyöräilit
Ja korissasi myhäili
Tyytyväinen puudeli
Ja rappusten narina äänelläsi soittaa
Jätit Taunuksesi ojaan ruostumaan
Kun käyn moikkamaan sitä sateella
Sinä rummutat sen peltikattoa
Trumpetti soi meren luona
Sen svengi heiluttelee rantojen puita
Nyt kun katson ikkunasi suuntaan
Liian pian tuli ilta
Haaveeni on
Minun haaveni on
Haaveni on olla kaltaisesi
Oi Emmanuel
Haaveeni on
Minun haaveni on
Haaveeni on olla kaltaisesi
Oi Emmanuel
Hei soittakaa joku trumpettia
Niin kuin Emmanuel aina
Radan laidalla
Se salpautti junan kuskien sydämet
Hei soittakaa joku trumpettia
Niin kuin Emmanuel aina
Käytävän laella
Se pisti nauramaan holvikaaret
The song "Emmanuel" by Antti Autio is about a legendary figure called Emmanuel, who the singer admires and dreams of being like. Emmanuel is described as a mythical hero who rides around the village on a bike, smiling all along the way, and making his presence known to everyone. The singer reminisces how Emmanuel used to drum on the tin roofs of houses, and how his voice echoed through the village streets long after he had ridden away. Emmanuel is also depicted as having a unique charm and beauty, symbolized by his planting of lilacs that remain a reminder of his persona.
The second verse further emphasizes Emmanuel's mythical stature by describing how his trumpet music could sway nature itself, making trees sway on the shore of the sea. But even as the nightfall approaches and Emmanuel fades away, the singer still holds onto his dream of becoming like him, of being just as captivating and endearing. The song is an ode to the mythical figure of Emmanuel, who embodies various traits that the singer wishes to emulate.

En kerinnyt perääsi juoksemaan
I didn't have time to run after you
Kun kävelit tyynesti nurmen taa
As you walked calmly beyond the meadow
Hymyilit koko matkasi loppuun asti
You smiled till the end of your journey
Silmien edessä muutuitkin valoksi
In front of my eyes, you turned into light
Sinun äänesi jäi pihalle kaikumaan
Your voice echoed in the yard
Sinä rummutit peltikattoja
You drummed on the tin roofs
Taisit tietää, että sinua ei voi unohtaa
You probably knew that you couldn't be forgotten
Kun istutit näitä sireenipensaita
When you planted these lilac bushes
Trumpetti soi meren luona
A trumpet playing by the sea
Sen svengi heiluttelee rantojen puita
Its rhythm swaying the trees along the shore
Kun pimeys koskee veneesi pohjaa
When darkness touches the bottom of your boat
Liian pian tulee ilta
Nightfall comes too soon
Haaveeni on
My dream is
Minun haaveni on
My dream is to be
Haaveni on olla kaltaisesi
My dream is to be like you
Oi Emmanuel
Oh Emmanuel
Sinä olit myyttinen sankari
You were a mythical hero
Kaikki miehetkin sinua katseli
All the men looked at you
Kun kylän polkuja pyöräilit
As you cycled through the village paths
Ja korissasi myhäili
And in your basket a contented poodle grinned
Tyytyväinen puudeli
A satisfied poodle
Ja rappusten narina äänelläsi soittaa
And the creaking of the stairs plays with your voice
Jätit Taunuksesi ojaan ruostumaan
You left your Taunus corroding in a ditch
Kun käyn moikkamaan sitä sateella
When I go to say hello to it in the rain
Sinä rummutat sen peltikattoa
You drum on its tin roof
Hei soittakaa joku trumpettia
Hey, somebody play a trumpet
Niin kuin Emmanuel aina
Like Emmanuel always did
Radan laidalla
At the edge of the railway
Se salpautti junan kuskien sydämet
It stopped the train drivers' hearts
Käytävän laella
On top of the corridor
Se pisti nauramaan holvikaaret
It made the arches laugh
