Taxi
Any Day in June Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I arrived in a Taxi
It seemed so displeasing
Everything we had said, we have done

Everything you say
Is so much amusing
When you were an actor and I was a boy
Everything we've done
Since then has been more than
A little bit honest a little bit sore

You always wanted
A scene like a movie
I always thought you had wanted more

I wanted more

I arrived in a Taxi
You seemed so displeased with me
I knew you had to say this
Everything we've done was a mistake
You have to be honest with your new friend

Everything we do
Is somehow abusive to
Everything that we've done in the past

No one will be here
To mistake the morning
Like we had done just the other day last

Everything we want
Is so much amore'
Everything we say
We could have been much

Everything is a
New offered religion
We cannot escape, I wanted more

I wanted more

I wanted more

I wanted more

I wanted more

I wanted more

Overall Meaning

In Any Day in June's song "Taxi", the lyrics are reflective of a broken relationship that has left both parties feeling hurt and resentful. The singer arrives in a taxi, indicating a sense of detachment from the situation and a desire to distance themselves from the person they are addressing. The tone of the song is somber and regretful, with the air of melancholy reflecting the failed connection between the two individuals.

The lyrics suggest that the relationship was based on shared experiences, but that these experiences were ultimately lacking in authenticity and depth. The singer notes that everything they had said and done seemed to ring hollow, as if they were simply going through the motions of a relationship without truly connecting on a meaningful level. This lack of emotional intimacy and genuine connection eventually led to a sense of disillusionment and disappointment.

Despite the challenging emotions that the lyrics evoke, there is a sense of longing present throughout the song. The repeated phrase "I wanted more" speaks to the idea that the singer yearned for a deeper connection and a greater sense of meaning in the relationship, but ultimately found it lacking. The song ends with a note of resignation, as the singer acknowledges that they cannot escape their feelings of disappointment and loss.

I just love that, in Bickle's mind, being able to withstand pain to that degree is just as much a part of daily exercise as are push-ups and weightlifting.

i think that ties into his post tramatic stress disorder he has from being special forces in vietnam

I think a lot of people miss the walking contradiction thing here "no more bad food no more destroyers of my body" and for the rest of the movie he's still seen eating garbage, popping what's presumably speed pills and still drinking....he hates junkies yet he is addicted to so many destructive vices, he contradicts himself many times throughout the movie. And that's one of the most relatable things about his character to me personally.

Zumanoid

Yea, like Betsy said "a walking contradiction"

Does he not eat the shit food before this scene? I haven't seen this in a while but I don't remember him treating himself like shit after the workout scene, I thought that's where he became dedicated to become 'greater'.

SIU

I don't care. I love this monologue. It is the perfect motivation before workouts.

Luke Phillips
