Jaded
Areosmith Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You got your mama's style
But you're yesterday's child to me
So jaded
You think that's where it's at
But is that where it's s'posed to be?
You're gettin' it all over me
X-rated
My, my, baby blue
Yeah, I've been thinkin' 'bout you
My, my, baby blue
Yeah, you're so jaded
And I'm the one that jaded you
Hey, J-J-Jaded
In all its misery
It will always be what I love
And hated
And maybe take a ride
To the other side we're thinkin' of
We'll slip into the velvet glove
And be jaded
My, my, baby blue
Yeah, I been thinkin' 'bout you
My, my, baby blue
Yeah, I'm so jaded
And baby, I'm afraid of you
You're thinkin' so complicated
I've had it all up to here
But it's so overrated
Love and hate it
Wouldn't trade it
Love me Jaded, yeah
Hey, J-J-Jaded
There ain't no "baby please"
When I'm shootin' the breeze with her
When everything you see is a blur
And ecstasy's what you prefer
My, my, baby blue
I'm a-talkin' 'bout you
My, my, baby blue
Yeah, I been thinkin' 'bout you
My, my, baby blue
Yeah, you're so jaded (Baby)
Jaded (Baby)
You're so jaded
'Cause I'm the one that jaded you
The lyrics to Aerosmith's song "Jaded" are about a relationship that has gone awry. The song starts with the singer describing the person they are talking to as "Jaded," meaning that they are disillusioned and fed up by life or love. They are "yesterday's child" to the singer, indicating that they are not on the same wavelength. The singer also feels as though it's getting too much for them, as the person is "getting it all over me X-rated." In this line, "X-rated" is used in a metaphorical sense, indicating that the person's negativity is affecting their relationship.
In the chorus, the singer says that he has been thinking a lot about the "baby blue" person that he is singing to. It is not entirely clear if this is the jaded person or a separate individual. The singer says that he is "so Jaded," indicating that he may have become disillusioned as well. The final line of the chorus, "And I'm the one that jaded you," suggests that the singer may have played a role in the other person's disillusionment.
The second verse talks about how the relationship is causing pain and misery, but there is still love there. The singer suggests that they "take a ride to the other side we're thinking of" and "slip into the velvet glove and be jaded," meaning that they should let go and allow themselves to feel the negative emotions together. The singer acknowledges that the other person is "thinking so complicated," and they are "afraid" of them.

First hearing this song some time after it released, I was struck by how powerful it was sound-wise. Very much in tune with the time it released, it was Aero for the new gen, yet still was identifiable as Aerosmith in its styling. They have never abandoned their style, even as it has morphed along with the times.

I saw Aerosmith in concert when I was fifteen years old, around 1977, in Dayton, Ohio, best concert ever. My ears are still ringing. Love you guys. Keep on rocking!

Saw them in the 90's and they were incredible. Absolutely one of the best concerts I have ever seen. The Stones are tied w them for first place.
