Help
Arthur Wilkinson & Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you

Wise men say only fools rush in
But I can't help falling in love with you
Shall I stay, would it be a sin?
But I can't help falling in love with you
As a river flows gently to the sea
Darling as it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand, take my whole life too
But I can't help falling in love with you

As the river flows gently to the sea
Darling so we go
Some things are meant to be

Take my hand, take my whole life too
But I can't help falling in love with you
But I can't help falling in love with you
But I can't help falling in love with you

But I can't help falling in love with you
(But) I can't help falling in love with you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Arthur Wilkinson & Orchestra's song "Help" explore the complex nature of love and the internal struggle that arises when one falls in love despite the advice and warnings of others. The first line of the chorus, "Wise men say only fools rush in," implies that the singer acknowledges the commonly shared wisdom that rushing into love could lead to heartache. However, they confess that they cannot resist falling in love with the person in question.

The second line of the chorus repeats the sentiment, emphasizing the singer's inability to control their feelings. They question whether it would be wrong to stay and continue pursuing this love, but ultimately they declare that they cannot resist falling in love with the person.

The subsequent verse compares the singer's love to a river flowing gently to the sea, suggesting that there is a natural and inevitable quality to their emotions. They believe that some things are meant to be, and they invite the person to take their hand and their whole life, emphasizing that their love is all-encompassing.

The repetition of the chorus reinforces the singer's helplessness in resisting their feelings, emphasizing that they cannot help but fall in love with the person in question. The song ends with a final repetition of this declaration.

Overall, the lyrics of "Help" convey the internal struggle of someone who recognizes the risks and potential consequences of falling in love, yet finds themselves unable to resist.

It works! This could be a real ballet, if someone hasn't already done it.

Have you uploaded part 2?

@billhardy7870

Too bad it skips at 2:45 from She Loves You to Help as though someone bumped the record player! :-(

@areacerrado8929

Yes, indeed : I always thought - right from my Year 12 'A' Level Music studies - that the She Loves You / Danse des Mirlitons was the best track [perhaps shared with the Danse Arabe / She Loves You].
I still have the EP from back then in 1965 ... :-)
