A Room With A View
Artie Shaw Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A room with a view
I've got a room with a view
Of wonderful you, my next door dream
'Cause you're the one and only one my heart really adores
And I'm so glad my window pane
Is just opposite yours
It isn't the moon way up in heaven above
It isn't the stars I'm dreaming of
I'm only looking forward to the time that I'll be sharing with you

A heaven for two
A room with a view

Overall Meaning

Artie Shaw's "A Room With A View" is a beautiful love song that speaks about a person’s dream of sharing a special moment with the love of their life, who also happens to be their neighbor. The song discusses having a "room with a view" that's enough for just two people in love. The singer conveys their joy that the neighbor's window is opposite theirs, allowing them to catch a glimpse of the one they adore.

The lyrics reveal the singer's adoration for the person they see through their window. The person is the heart and soul of the singer. They dream of spending time with the person they love as they sit and watch the world go by from their room with a view. The lyrics are a beautiful embodiment of the magic of love that can bloom from the smallest of gestures, like living next door to someone you adore.

Artie Shaw - cl, dir; Bernie Privin, Chuck Peterson, John Best - tp; George Arus, Les Jenkins, Harry Rogers - tb; Les Robinson, Al Freeman - as; Tony Pastor, Georgie Auld - ts; Bob Kitsis - p; Al Avola - g; Sid Weiss - b; George Wettling - dr; Helen Forrest - voc.

What is there to say other than this is perfection as practically anything the Shaw congregation produced at the time? It was only Miss Fogel's third time in a recording studio, and already she was a full-fledged songbird, warbling my favorite version of this romantic Swan song about enticing lodgings. A classic recording, with a gratuitous avian component to it.

@randallriley

Gorgeous song and lovely arrangement which soars when Helen steps up to the microphone-- and easily the best sounding copy I've ever heard.
