1) Ash are an alternative rock band that formed in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland in 1992. The media originally pegged Ash's music as Britpop when the band first found mainstream success.
The current line-up of the group is as follows: Tim Wheeler (vocals and guitar), Mark Hamilton (bass guitar) and Rick McMurray (drums).
Ash's full-length debut "1977" was released in 1996 and followed 1994's mini album "Trailer". Named after the year they were all born (and in honour of the year Star Wars was released), "1977" displayed Wheeler and Hamilton's full-fledged love for all things extra-terrestrial and science fiction-related. In autumn 1997, guitarist Charlotte Hatherley was added to the existing trio. Hatherley was recruited from the band Nightnurse.
The new quartet's sophomore effort - "Nu-Clear Sounds" was released in 1998 to a mixed critical reaction. "Free All Angels" followed in April 2001, gaining a U.S. release in the following summer.
Meltdown, the band's first Stateside release for Record Collection, arrived in spring 2005. A year later, and after nine years with Ash, Charlotte Hatherley announced her departure from the band to concentrate on a solo career. The split was amicable and the members of the band have mentioned that they are open to Charlotte returning.

Insects
Ash Lyrics

They come crawling across your floor
They are lurking in every corner
You can't ignore them anymore
Their eyes watch you while you're sleeping
They colonise your very skin
Now you feel your throat constricting
Feel the panic kicking in
You can't run away from yourself
You can't run away from yourself
You can't run away from yourself
Insects, all these insects
That you face when you're alone
All your failings, inhibitions
They take hold and don't let go
Just like insects, a plague of insects
On the city streets below
All the swarming crowds of people
Multiplying, out of control
You can't run away from yourself
You can't run away from yourself
You can't run away from yourself
Neurotic revulsion
Subconscious compulsions
Infernal impulses
Such vivid hallucinations
Nightmarish fixations
Figments of your imagination
You don't deserve love
You feel you're worthless
In denial
Psychosis
Break the cycle
The power lies within
You can't run away from yourself
You can't run away from yourself
You can't run away from yourself
You can't run away from yourself
You can't run away from yourself
You can't run away from yourself
Ash's song "Insects" is an introspective examination of the human psyche and the overwhelming feeling of being consumed by one's own thoughts and insecurities. The lyrics use insects as a metaphor for the negative thoughts that crawl and lurk within a person's mind, watching and colonizing every aspect of their being. The repetition of the line "You can't run away from yourself" emphasizes the inescapability of these thoughts and the need to confront them head-on.
The lyrics also explore the idea of self-doubt and the fear of being alone with one's thoughts. The line "All your failings, inhibitions / They take hold and don't let go" conveys the idea of being trapped by one's own insecurities, unable to break free. The song also touches on the notion of societal pressures and the overwhelming feeling of being lost in a sea of people, represented by the line "All the swarming crowds of people / Multiplying, out of control."
The chorus reiterates the idea that one cannot outrun their own thoughts and emotions, and the final lines suggest a call to action - to break the cycle and take control of one's own mind.
