New San Antonio Rose
Asleep At The Wheel Lyrics

A song of old San Antone
Where in dreams I live with a memory
Beneath the stars all alone
It was there I found beside the Alamo
Enchantment strange as the blue up above
A moonlit path that only she would know
Moon in all your splendor knows only my heart
Call back my Rose, Rose of San Antone
Her lips so sweet and tender like petals fallin' apart
Speak once again of my love, my own
Broken song, empty words I know
Still live in my heart all alone
For that moonlit path by the Alamo
And Rose, my Rose of San Antone
Asleep At The Wheel's song "New San Antonio Rose" is a classic honky-tonk country song about a man who is deeply in love with a woman named Rose from San Antonio. The song speaks of how he carries the memory of their love deep within his heart and how he longs to be reunited with her. He reminisces about the moonlit path by the Alamo, where he found a strange enchantment with Rose. The song implies that he has lost her and is forever haunted by his love for her.
The lyrics of this song are rich with imagery and emotion, telling a story of unrequited love in the classic country music style. The use of the moon, stars and the Alamo creates a dreamy atmosphere that adds to the nostalgia and longing of the song. The melody is reminiscent of old-timey country music, with a waltz-like rhythm and a simple yet effective tune that is easy to sing along with.

Its enduring popularity has helped it to become a classic of country music, with its simple yet poignant lyrics resonating with generations of listeners.
