Assala's commercial musical career debuted in 1991 with the Egyptian song hit Law Ta'rafou (Egyptian Arabic: لو تعرفو). The album had 4 Egyptian songs in the oriental operatic Classic Egyptian tarab style. The album was an instant hit in Egypt back at that time with heartbreaking songs like "Ya Sabra Yana" and "Samehtak Ketir". She quickly cemented her presence in the Arabic world a growing industry brimming with singers like Angham, Najwa Karam, Latifa, , and Abdelmajeed Abdullah.
Ever since the beginning of the Syrian Civil War, in 2011, Assala Nasri claimed her support for the Syrian rebels and her commitment against Bachar el Assad. Her positions towards the Civil War are human : she wants the conflict to end for the sake of the Syrian civilians. She had her first composing experience in the writing of one song, released in 2011. For her commitment in the conflict, Assala sang at the International Peace day as a new ambassador for "Peace Building Through Music."

Ya Magnon is a song by Syrian singer Assala Nasri that speaks to the complex emotions and conflicts that arise in a relationship. The title itself means "Oh Madman," and throughout the song, the singer is addressing someone who seems to be struggling with their feelings for her. She states that she is not the night, nor is she swayed by a mere breath of his love, suggesting that his advances do not have the power to sway her easily. Despite this, the singer is aware that he wants her to tell him why she loves him, to which she replies that she simply loves him without reason.
The song continues as the singer acknowledges the pain and difficulties that sometimes come with loving someone. She notes that sometimes the madman complains to the skies, while at other times he confides in the night. Despite the challenges, the singer has seen her fair share of difficulties and heartache but will continue to love the madman through it all. She ends the song on a hopeful note, stating that her heart has chosen him, despite all the challenges he presents.
Overall, Ya Magnon is a beautiful and complex ballad that explores the nuances of romantic love. It reflects on the confusion, pain, and joy that come with loving someone deeply, and the challenges that arise when trying to navigate those emotions.
