Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Astor Piazzolla's song Tango-Tango emphasize the power of music and particularly tango music. The repetition of the word "music" and the phrase "just music" reinforce the idea that music has a profound impact on the artist and the audience. The line "stops..." followed by "and get back to the music" suggests that even if the music momentarily stops or faces challenges, it ultimately prevails and continues to provide solace and inspiration. The phrase "tango tango tango" serves as a rallying cry for listeners to embrace this particular style of music.

What is particularly fascinating about these lyrics is that they demonstrate how much cultural significance tango music holds in Argentina and beyond. The rhythm and feel of the tango genre are embedded into the language of the lyrics itself, and the way in which the repetition and variation of the phrase "just music" create a kind of call-and-response format mimics the call-and-response of tango dance partners. Ultimately, the lyrics make a case for the universality of music as a means of communication and expression.
