Tiba-dum-dá, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dê, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dá, di-um-dá, di-um-dá
Tiba-dum-dá, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dê, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dá, di-um-dá, di-um-dá

Eu quis amar, mas tive medo
E quis salvar meu coração
Mas o amor sabe um segredo (lá-iá)
O medo pode matar o seu coração
Água de beber (de beber)
Água de beber, camará
Água de beber
Água de beber, camará

Tiba-dum-dá, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dê, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dá, di-um-dá, di-um-dá

Eu nunca fiz coisa tão certa
Entrei pra escola do perdão
A minha casa vive aberta
Abri todas as portas do coração

Água de beber (de beber)
Água de beber, camará
Água de beber (de beber)
Água de beber, camará
Água de beber
Água de beber, camará

Tiba-dum-dá, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dê, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dá, di-um-dá, di-um-dá

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Astrud Gilberto's "Agua De Beber" imploringly speak of the pitfalls of loving in fear and the redemptive power of forgiveness. The opening lines, "Tiba-dum-dá, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dê, badebadabadá, tiba-dum-dá, di-um-dá, di-um-dá" create an upbeat, carefree atmosphere for the song while, in contrast, the lyrics speak of fear, uncertainty, and doubt. It reflects the longing of someone who wanted to love but held back for fear of heartbreak. The line "Mas o amor sabe um segredo (lá-iá)/O medo pode matar o seu coração" translates to "But love knows a secret (there)/ Fear can kill your heart". The singer eventually overcomes the fear and opens her heart to love by learning the value of forgiveness. The closing lines, "Abri todas as portas do coração" mean "I opened all the doors of my heart".

Hola.

Hi.
I dedicate this beautiful and melodious song to all Brazilian women. Sweet, welcoming, tender, friendly, proactive, hard-working women, with a lot of personality , independent and sure of themselves. I am Chilean, and all these attributes have never been, nor will most Chilean women ever have.
I thank God that most Latinas are not at all like the women of my country, and that is great.
Thanks for uploading the video.
Greetings from Chile, South America.

I’m 25 year old italian girl. Six years ago I listened this beautiful song for the first time (thanks to Mad Men) and I fell in love with it, then I listened to other bossa nova-style songs and it became my favorite musical style. I love brazil! 💞

My ex husband was her drummer for a while. He recorded one of their shows and had the tape on cassette. She even said all of the players names during the show, including his. I loved that tape. He also had a photo of her in his album. Told me some stories and he had mentioned that his friend, the keyboardist had the biggest crush on her lol
