The group consists of Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke (vocals, guitars, and piano), Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea (bass guitar), longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich (keyboards, synths), Joey Waronker of Beck and R.E.M. (drums), and Brazilian instrumentalist Mauro Refosco (percussion). Their debut album, Amok, became available for streaming on February 18, 2013, and was released on February 25, 2013.
The band shares a name with both the 1953 speech by American president Dwight D. Eisenhower and a song from Yorke's debut solo album The Eraser. On their website, under their name, is the phrase "Nerth Nuclerek? Na Vynnav" which is in the Cornish language and can be translated as Nuclear Power? No Thanks. This is the text from the Smiling Sun anti nuclear power logo, which has been translated into at least 49 languages, including Cornish.
Thom Yorke has stated that the members of Atoms for Peace bonded over a shared love of the music of afrobeat, and said in an interview that the debut album was "the product of getting together, getting wasted and listening to Fela Kuti."

Try to save it but it doesn't come off the rug
Try to build a wall that is high enough
It's all boiling over
It's all boiling over
Try to save your house
Try to save your songs
Try to run but it follows you up a hill
It's all boiling over
It's all boiling over

A normal conversation
A normal conversation
(you should have took me out when you had the chance)
(you should have took me out when you had the chance)
All the rooms renumbered
And losers turned away
(you should have took me out when you had the chance)
Don't turn away
(you should have took me out when you had the chance)
Don't turn away

@Ethan Deister this has always made it a challenge to play on piano in time with Thom!

@Ethan Deister Yes I have. The album version always seems to come across displaced in some way. It's really weird and I haven't given too much analytical thought to it yet but you're picking up on the same thing I am for sure. Live versions are more straightforward with how they establish the beat.
Ethan Deister
Oh hey Warren, I know this is an old comment, but have you noticed the syncopation that appears in this song too? The piano is played on the and's of 1 and 2, and then also on 4. It's more noticable in the live version, but on the album version it sounds as if the piano is shifted a half beat back from what I mentioned earlier. It becomes obvious where the beat is when the drums kick in though.
