The Hermit
Attacker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

On a cold wintery mountain
He draws the final curtaln
The hermit cries
As his inner soul dies

Golden sand
Crimson land
He's alone tn his world
Hear his plea
For can't you see
His llfe has been hurled

Hermit, hermit alone on a hill
Let them laugh, say what they will
Hermit, hermit, your time has come...

Looking down at the life that was his own
With no love in his heart he is alone

Overall Meaning

The Attacker’s song The Hermit describes the story of a man living alone on a mountain in a wintery season. The hermit has reached a point of no return, where he draws the final curtain of his life. The lyrics are very vivid and emotive, as they describe the pain and sorrow the hermit is going through, as his inner soul dies. The song describes the hermit’s alienation from society, as he is living alone on a deserted mountain, isolated from any human contact. The use of the descriptive words, such as β€˜golden sand’ and β€˜crimson land’ provides great imagery, and helps to enhance the mood of sadness and loneliness.

The chorus lyrics, β€˜Hermit, hermit alone on a hill, let them laugh, say what they will, Hermit, hermit, your time has come…’ is a perfect encapsulation of the message in this song. The lyrics describe the hermit’s final plea, after a life of alienation and loneliness, to be released from his pain and suffering. The final verse of the song describes the hermit looking back at his life and seeing that he had no love in his heart, and that he was left to die alone. The song is a powerful image of the pain that can come from living in isolation, and the deep desire to find a way to escape it.

Me and my buddy graduated highschool around 1990. He was texting me about stuff and mentioned a song off this album. I had no idea what he was talking about. I came here and was blown away!! I hadnt heard this since 1988 or 89. It was like walking into a kindergarten classroom and smelling the playdoh and finger paints and being transported straight back to there. WOW. What a trip!!
