Last Call
Audrey Horne Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This neighborhood has crashed and burned, I brought death to them all through a home-made hurricane
Armed with scissors, fire and booze,
I wiped this goth town clean, and left a pool of mascara and blood
Little miss evil, didn't someone tell you that you life its more than just bats and graveyards, you dream of Marilyn but just like Cave In said,
"the reality check is in the mail"

Last call, first wave, they should have called you, everything is up for sale now
Reality is a bitter pill you swallow to grow up, I guess by now you should have known you've all been fucked
These so-called freaks are signing multi-million dollar deals, bats and graveyards are obviously up for sale

So never mind the fact that you are haunted 'cause all of you ghosts have sneaker brands and cribs in the hill
I guess your checks have bounced, still you sing along, well misery loves company

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Audrey Horne's song "Last Call" tell a story of disillusionment and frustration towards a subculture that has lost its integrity and authenticity. The singer seems to have had a hand in destroying this community, using unconventional weapons such as scissors, fire, and alcohol. The "goth town" is left in disarray, with "a pool of mascara and blood," as if the singer has uncovered their true nature and laid them bare.

The song's chorus, "Last call, first wave, they should have called you, everything is up for sale now" can be interpreted as both a call to action and a statement of resignation. The first wave of the subculture, the pioneers who created it, have been left behind or left out of the commercialized version of what they started. Everything that was once genuine and unique about this subculture is now watered down and available for anyone to purchase. The singer is calling out the members of this community, telling them they should have fought harder to protect what they created, but also admitting that it is too late now. The bitter tone of the song is a reflection of the singer's disappointment in what was once a vibrant and meaningful subculture.
