The band has taken various shapes since its formation in 2008, all the while being propelled by
the constant writing and touring that has become Noyes’ trademark. 2011 has been their busiest
year yet with over 150 shows played and a five released recordings (3 EPs, 1 full length, and 1
covers album).
The touring brought them all over the US with stops at more than a few well
known music festivals including Bonnaroo and Orlando Calling, along with opening appearances
for the likes of Deer Tick, Blind Pilot and many others. Like the band itself, the music is varied.
Sometimes its quiet and sentimental, stripped down to nothing more than acoustic guitar and
vocals. At other times, particularly on the most recent album Norway, ME, it becomes a lush
wall of sound filled by layered vocal loops, electric guitars, makeshift percussion and
synthesizers. Listen at www.auntmarthaband.com/audio
Bloodshot
Aunt Martha Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Trying to remember the things I did
If I went too far I hope it doesn't do me in
Cause they tell me a man is just the sum of his parts
Well I'm body and blood and a terrible heart
And it all adds up to every different person I've been
I wanted to touch your body and kiss you on the mouth
Bloodshot, what do you want, what do you want
I know that you see me as a younger man
But cities and countries they had other plans
And we all grow up, what do you think you're gonna grow back
The people around me, they're not my friends
You can do what you want, I'd rather pretend
Cause no one should be lonely, everyone needs people like that
I wanted to crash your party but I couldn't find your house
I wanted to touch your body and kiss you on the mouth
Bloodshot, what do you want, what do you want
Everyone you know is living at home
In the gutted-out basements, chemical zones
Well you're still gonna wonder, you're still gonna ask
But whatever the wonder, nothing can last
Bloodshot, what do you want, what do you want
Bloodshot, what do you want, what do you want
Bloodshot, what do you want, what do you want
The song "Bloodshot" by Aunt Martha is a haunting and introspective look at the journey of life and regrets that come with it. The lyrics describe a man who is looking back at his past, trying to piece together the things he's done and the person he's become. He acknowledges his flaws - a terrible heart - and wonders what that makes him as a person. He wanted to crash someone's party and touch their body, but he couldn't find them. He's left with the feeling of being lost and alone, pretending to have friends when really he's just lonely.
