In 2004, under the current name Autopilot Off, they released their debut album, Make a Sound, which includes the single "What I Want", co-written by Rancid's Tim Armstrong.
"Clockwork" was featured on the soundtrack of the games SSX3 and NHL 2004. "Chromatic Fades" was used in NASCAR Thunder 2004. "Make a Sound", was included in Burnout 3. All of these games were developed by Electronic Arts.
On August 26, 2005, the band decided to take an indefinite hiatus and released the following statement on their official website:
"So, it's been quite a while since we have posted any news. We've been off the road for well over 6 months now. We played a couple of shows over the holidays in NY. But that is about all that has gone on. Rumors have started to fly around about what we are up to. We think its about time that we filled you all in.....
We've decided to take an indefinite break from Autopilot Off. It has been nearly 10 years since the band started, and it has been full speed ahead for the majority of that time. We have all decided to take some time for our lives outside of the band. We are all still the best of friends. In addition to this we decided a few months back to leave our home of 4 years at Island Records. We apologize for leaving you all hanging for so long. Thank you so much for all the support and friendships that you all have given to us over the years. We could never have done it without you."
In 2011, the band reunited and began recording again.
I Know You're Waiting

Watching every single move
On the wire I cling to
Had a feeling
Like a cold and empty room
There was nothing left to lose
And I know, I know you're waiting
I know, I know it's all that's true
I was wasted
Without everything I knew
I was lost without a clue
I know, I know you're waiting
I'll see you again if it's the last thing I can do
I know, I know it's all that's true
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
And I wandered so far, and it brought me back to you
And I screamed at the sky, and it turned from black to blue
And I know, I know you're waiting
I'll see you again if it's the last thing I can do
I know, I know it's all that's true, that's true, that's true!
That's true! That's true! That's true!
That's true! That's true! That's true!
Now I'm weightless
Staring out across the view
Over mountains, I can't move
The opening lines of Autopilot Off's song, "I Know You're Waiting," are powerful and set the mood for the rest of the track. In these lyrics, the singer describes how he was waiting and watching every single move while clinging to a wire, unsure about what would come next. He also expresses feelings of emptiness and a sense that there was nothing left to lose. The song's lyrics indicate that there is someone that the singer is waiting for, and he knows that this person is waiting for him too.
Throughout the song, the singer talks about feeling lost and not knowing what to do. He reveals that he was "wasted" without everything he knew and that he was "lost without a clue." The lyrics suggest that the person he's waiting for is his guiding star and that he needs that person to show him the way. The chorus repeats the key message that the singer knows someone is waiting for him, and he promises to do his best to see that person again.
