In the Darkest Night
Autumn's Grey Solace Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To all these lies
That we all deny
What if we could bury them away?
So we'd were so wrong
What if we found all the reasons to
Feel what is real?
Hiding on the other
Ourselves
Truth be told you will be old in time
Ourselves
Run so far through lies
Even in the darkest night
No one
No one can see
See through a mask
Though it may be
Be a little dim
The truth that exists inside your heart
So let it in
The warmth that is real
The warmth that wee feel
Waiting for us on the
On the other side
Ourselves
Truth be told you will be old in time
Ourselves
Run so far through lies
Even in the darkest night
Run so far through lies
Even in the darkest night
The lyrics of Autumn's Grey Solace's song "In the Darkest Night" speak to the idea of truth and deception. The singer wonders what would happen if we were to confront the lies that we all deny and bury them away. The hope is that by doing so, we can uncover the real reasons for our feelings and find what is genuine and truthful. The search for truth is conjured up by the idea of an "other side," a place where the real truth lies.
The second verse contemplates the masks that we wear and the fact that no one can see the truth that exists inside our hearts. The hope is that if we are able to let go of our masks and let the truth in, we'll experience the warmth of what is real. This warmth is what we're all ultimately seeking, and it's waiting for us on the other side.
The chorus repeats the idea that we must face the truth about ourselves and the lies we've told ourselves in order to find what is real. The repetition of the line "even in the darkest night" suggests that this search is particularly difficult but, in the end, worth it.
