Spaceman
Autumn Hill Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She packed her bags and kissed him on the forehead
careful not to wake him up,
and as she hit the open road tears came pouring from her soul.
There was a voice inside that wouldn't let her go.
Maybe God is just a spaceman
who got lost and landed here one day and
when he couldn't find his home he made one of his own
turned these skies to gold, hid diamonds in the snow
so lonely hearts can find their way back home.
He loosened his tie and went on his lunch break.
Looked up at the sky and kept right on walking.
He left his papers where they laid,
he wasnt going to need them anyway,
there was a voice inside that wouldn't let him stay.
Maybe God is just a spaceman
who got lost and landed here one day and
when he couldn't find his home he made one of his own
turned these skies to gold, hid diamonds in the snow
so lonely hearts can find their way back home.
Maybe God is just a spaceman
who got lost and landed here one day and
when he couldn't find his home he made one of his own
turned these skies to gold, hid diamonds in the snow
so lonely hearts can find their way back home.

We'll find a way, find a way back home.
We'll find a way, find a way back home.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Autumn Hill's "Spaceman" seem to be a metaphorical representation of the search for meaning and purpose in life. The song describes two individuals who both feel a deep sense of longing and restlessness, as if they are searching for something intangible, something that they cannot quite put into words. The first verse describes a woman who is leaving her partner behind in search of this elusive thing. She is crying because she is aware that she is leaving something behind that is important to her, but she cannot ignore the voice inside her that is calling her to explore new horizons. The second verse describes a man who is also feeling the same sense of restlessness, but instead of leaving physically, he walks away from his job, symbolizing his desire to change his life path. The chorus describes the idea that perhaps God is just like them, a "spaceman" who is also searching for his own purpose on Earth. He has created a beautiful universe with golden skies and hidden diamonds, hoping that those who feel lost, like the two protagonists in the song, can find their way back home to their true selves.

The lyrics invoke a feeling of melancholy as well as a sense of hope. The idea that there may be a purpose to our existence and that we are not alone in our search for meaning provides a sense of comfort to those who feel lost or disconnected. The "spaceman" metaphor is used effectively to convey a sense of awe and wonder, emphasizing the vastness and complexity of the universe, and the idea that there may be something greater than ourselves that we are all searching for.

Just when l thought the music business was a shadow of its self. Where the good stuff ended with the 90s. Where most people these days would throwing words together, prancing about as skanks ,or rebels, using audio edits and music beats to make a song "a hit". Then THIS came on my radio, gives me hope and gratitude that there is some talent in the bizz.
