Sisters
Avan Lava Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A precious head to hold when she stays, as she lays
Moving in so close, we're face to face, anticipating

Thirteen minute touch, we were sisters such love at nineteen
Fall into a crush, not asking for too much, love it might be

With every hand we fold, a drifting fate, is it too late?
Come on let's be bold, and lift the weight, with risks we take

Thirteen minute touch, we were sisters such love at nineteen
Fall into a crush, not asking for too much, love it might be

You can have me whenever, why don't we reignite, you don't have to hide
You can have me whenever, but you still demonize what you are inside
You can have me whenever, why don't we reignite, you don't have to hide
You can have me whenever, but you still demonize what you are inside
You can have me whenever, why don't we reignite, you don't have to hide
You can have me whenever, but you still demonize what you are inside

Thirteen minute touch, not asking for too much, we are the sisters of,
We are the sisters of

Thirteen minute touch, not asking for too much, we are the sisters of,
We are the sisters of

Thirteen minute touch, not asking for too much, we are the sisters of,
We are the sisters of

Thirteen minute touch, not asking for too much, we are the sisters of,
We are the sisters of

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Avan Lava's song "Sisters" seem to speak to a close relationship between two women who connect on a deeply emotional level. The first verse describes the physical closeness and anticipation between the two protagonists - "Moving in so close, we're face to face, anticipating". The next verse speaks to the fact that they are sisters in spirit and love, bonding over an intense connection and an understanding of their shared experiences. The lyrics suggest that their relationship has a deeply romantic and sexual dimension - "Fall into a crush, not asking for too much, love it might be."

The chorus itself suggests that there is a pain that the singers feel about the limitations of their relationship - that they want to be able to explore their connection fully and without fear, but that there are societal expectations and judgments that hold them back. The repeated phrase "You can have me whenever, but you still demonize what you are inside" speaks to the idea that they are willing and ready to take their relationship to the next level, but that they fear being judged or ostracized for their desires.

Overall, "Sisters" seems to be a song about the intense, powerful bonds that can exist between women, and the ways in which societal expectations and prejudices can hold them back from fully exploring those connections. It speaks to a desire for freedom, authenticity, and acceptance - to be able to love and be loved without fear or shame.

Every single time I see this video I just get lost in the story. Seriously, whoever did the video for this should get a damn big cookie because I have to stop and remember that these people are actors for the video and not the video being about two (irl) actual lovers. Their emotions and conflicts are captured so perfectly. Still in awe after discovering this years back.

I discovered this in late 2012 as a suggested video and I keep coming back to it as one of my favorite all time videos and songs. Absolutely beautiful production and story telling.
