Malo

Malo, malo, malo eres
No se daña a quien se quiere no
Tonto, tonto, tonto eres
No te pienses mejor que las mujeres
Malo, malo, malo, malo, malo...
Malo, malo, malo eres
Malo, malo, malo eres
No se daña a quien se quiere no
Tonto, tonto, tonto eres
No te pienses mejor que las mujeres
Malo, malo, malo, malo, malo...
Malo, malo, malo eres
No se daña
Malo, malo, malo eres
No se daña a quien se quiere no
The lyrics to Avicii's song Malo explore the theme of toxic masculinity and its effects on women. The repetitive use of the word "malo" (meaning "bad" in Spanish) highlights the harmful behavior of the male subject, who is seen as arrogant, disrespectful, and abusive towards the female narrator. The opening lines "Malo, malo, malo eres, no se daña a quien se quiere no" ("You're bad, bad, bad, you don't hurt the ones you love") suggest that the male's actions stem from a lack of understanding of what it means to love and respect others.
The female narrator describes the negative impact the male subject has on her life, with lines such as "El día es gris cuando tu estas" ("The day is gray when you're around") implying that he drains her of happiness and hope. She also reveals the emotional toll of his behavior, with the line "Y la penita de mi corazón, yo me la tengo que tragar con el fogón" ("And the sadness in my heart, I have to swallow it with the stove"), expressing the idea that she is forced to hide her pain and deal with it alone.
The song concludes with a powerful statement of empowerment from the female narrator, who declares that she will no longer tolerate mistreatment and will fight back if necessary. "Voy a volverme como el fuego, voy a quemar tus puños de acero" ("I will become like fire, I will burn your fists of steel"), she says, demonstrating her strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
