Monument
Azusa Lyrics

The sacred façade
Repressing the rise
of emotional misery?
Who will call the bluff?
And reveal reality
Who will meet them head on?
Unlift your arms
(They built a monument)
Unsing the song
(They bulit a monument)
Turn around
And face the unpleasant
Unfeel the thrill
Come to your senses
They built a wall,
Fastidiously concerned with spiritualizing Rationalizing the unease
Aligning faith with circumstance
Undo the praise
(They built a monument)
Unfeel the joy
(They built a monument)
Turn around
And face the unpleasant
Unfeel the thrill
Bring forth the sorrow
Who will not uphold
The sacred façade
Repressing the rise
of emotional misery?
The lyrics of Azusa's song, "Monument," speak about the societal pressure of upholding traditional and cultural values, which, in effect, represses individual emotions and leads to a false facade. The artist questions, "Who will call the bluff and reveal reality?" The answer to which, according to the song, is those who are brave enough to strip themselves and others of their emotional shelter, face their reality, and feel their sorrow.
Azusa highlights the burden of the facade that one must carry to find acceptance and belonging in society. The society's focus on spiritualizing and rationalizing our unease, making it difficult for one to express their emotions and vulnerabilities. The lyrics ask us to acknowledge the unpleasant and unfeel the joys, praising, and spiritual aligning that lead to the monumental facade. Instead, one must face the unpleasant, feel the sorrow, and remove the mask to reveal the real emotions.
Overall, the song encourages people to acknowledge their pain and sorrow instead of using monumental and symbolic gestures as a cover-up. It urges us to be honest and authentic about our feelings and express them freely without the fear of being judged or rejected.
