Matthew Dewar and Noel Jago started the band in jest as they set out to play a live gig whereby every song had to be from the 80s and they had to perform acoustically; yet, it worked. With fans from across the world, they have since released three full-length albums.

To me Clubber Lang was not an antagonist. He might have tried to have gone about it in a "nice" way to get a shot at Rocky, but he made several great points. To me, Clubber's humanity comes out when he is speaking to the crowd, while Mickey speaks to Rocky. Here is what Clubber says (from 1:17):

Mr. T showed some of the best acting and improvisation ever in this film. I am sure most of his lines were ad-libbed. There is no way the writers came up with those lines. It's funny with Clubber. He's a villain, but at the end of the day, his beef was legitimate. He was #1, and the time lapse had Rocky having a ton of fights and getting all rich, when he kept getting ducked. This scene was after a long time of him saying nothing. He was clearly doing literally anything he could to get him in the ring. If you look at it in the perspective of Clubber, he really was a more brash version of what Rocky had been, a gritty tireless fighter. Honestly, I think they missed the boat of giving him more depth.

Agreed. He was a fighter who worked his ass off and wanted his shot. He pressed his beef openly, got his shot, and became champ. Everything he did was to make sure he got his shot and win. He waged physical and psychological warfare on Rocky who indeed was tailor made for Clubber.

Rocky "villains," when stripped to their core, are fighters, who like Rocky, wanted their shot. If you listen closely, you can hear Clubber lay out some depth to his character while Rocky is telling Mick he wants to fight him. Clubber is saying don't judge me by anything but by how hard I work, by my pride, my determination and my fighting record. He is a fighter....but

Clubber was right! Mickey knew better than to allow Rocky to fight him, and coerced Rocky into retiring the moment Clubber became the number one contender. I think the character of Clubber Lang was partially portraying Ron Lyle and George Foreman.

Looking back on this scene, Clubber Lang was actually in the right here.

Mickey knew Clubber was a monster and would probably destroy Rocky considering he got comfortable with all the new fame and fortune he earned after beating Apollo. Therefore, he gave Rocky easier bouts in order to have him keep the title and avoid any confrontation with Lang.

Clubber of course was pissed at this fact and decided to confront them both directly in public, knowing that he could provoke Balboa into fighting him with the crowd at his side. And who could argue? He fought through every other contender in order to become #1, there's no question that he deserves a title shot.

Although I loved Mick as a trainer, it was pretty messed to screw someone out of their opportunity like that. But then again, the world of Boxing wasn't always "Fair" at the time to begin with.....

You have to respect Clubber's trash talk. He's one of the only antagonists in the franchise whose able to get under Rocky's skin with words alone. It took Drago killing Apollo to get Rocky this riled up in four.
