The Thrill Is Gone
B.B. King & Eric Clapton Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The thrill is gone
The thrill is gone away
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong baby
And you'll be sorry someday

The thrill is gone
It's gone away from me
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away from me
Although, I'll still live on
But so lonely I'll be

The thrill is gone
It's gone away for good
The thrill is gone baby
It's gone away for good
Someday I know I'll be open armed baby
Just like I know a good man should

You know I'm free, free now baby
I'm free from your spell
Oh I'm free, free, free now
I'm free from your spell

And now that it's all over
All I can do is wish you well

Overall Meaning

"The Thrill Is Gone" is a classic blues song by B.B. King, which has been covered by various artists, including Eric Clapton. The lyrics of this song speaks about a failed relationship, where the thrill and excitement is lost due to the wrongdoings of the partner.

The opening lines, "The thrill is gone, the thrill is gone away, the thrill is gone baby, the thrill is gone away" sets the tone of the song. The thrill refers to the excitement and spark in the relationship, and it's now lost. The lyrics express the singer's pain and sense of loss, as he mentions, "Although, I'll still live on, but so lonely I'll be." He acknowledges that he will move on, but the emptiness left by the lost thrill is palpable.

The lyrics "You know you done me wrong baby, and you'll be sorry someday" suggests that the woman has betrayed him, and he knows that eventually, she will regret her actions. However, in the last few lines, the singer says, "And now that it's all over, all I can do is wish you well", showing that he is ready to move past the hurt and focus on the future.

Eric Clapton plays like a musician rather than a star. He always does. A real master.

4:56 Jimmi Vaughn just killed that improv man. He just managed to find the absolute perfect thing to play for that moment. Even Clapton played one hell of a solo. The beauty in Clapton’s solo lies in its fast pace and the way he used a mixture of high bends. Not to forget bb king and Robert clay who are timeless legends in their own right. Simply amazing.

He was my fav of the bunch, with BB close behind but he took the cake imo.

Love hearing these legends play together.
During the solos you could close your eyes and know who’s playing the lead. Wish Stevie could have been there too
