25th of April 1974 Portugal also had a military coup d'etat that overthrew the country's dictatorship that had lasted for around 50 years. The coup was successful with barely any shots fired, giving birth to our democracy.

I am somewhat disappointed that you didn't mention not a single Greek Coup. For example the military Junta of 1967-1974 and the one of Ioannis Metaxas in 1936. Both had major impact in the Balkan peninsula and the Mediterranean.

Brazil also went through 20 years of military dictatorship that began with the involvement of the US. I think people, specially US citizens that never had to deal with something like that themselves, don't understand the instability and scars that these coups left on latino countries. Our current president is a "creation" of this dictatorship, he was on the military, you can easily find videos of him saying they should have killed more people, or celebrating one of the most horrible torturers from those days. Venezuela is still dealing with coups right now, same goes for Peru and Bolivia...

The political upheaval the coup in 2006 caused in Thailand.

Tharksin was the PM at that time but he botched up the previous year's election pretty badly with people crying foul that he had actually rigged the votes. Not only that, he even sold his sole company under his family's care, Shin Corp who handles Thailand's satellites and also ThaiCom, Thailand's national communication company, to Singapore's Temasek Holdings (I'm Singaporean and I'm fucking disgusted at how greedy our PM and his wife is over this to even singlehandedly played a hand in Thai's crumbling politics). This caused more upheaval as people now realized they had been betrayed by Tharksin that they had supported for 15 years and the army thought that enough was enough and couped him out while he was in London and a few other ministers were busy overseas attending meetings like the IMF World Bank meeting in Singapore.

The coup, till now, has already changed 4 PMs and as of now, its slated to be changed again with people being unhappy with the current PM who ousted Tharksin's sister Inluck from the seat by force and this time, the people are protesting against this current PM.

@Drswag 007 It's exactly how it worked for us in Latinamerica in the 70s, recently declassified CIA files have confirmed what all of us already knew, the USA ordered for a forceful removal of democratically elected presidents in Latinamerica. Chile had the first democratically elected socialist government in the entire world, by 1973 our government palace was bombed and the USA decided to use us as lab rats to test neoliberal policies birthed from the mind of Milton Friedman in Chicago. So, yes, the US has been instrumental in the precariousness of Latinamerican countries.

Your list is good but is missing many coup's, First I would just mention the entire continent of Asia was not represented in any way. One that deserves at least an honourable mention would be the many coup d'etat that have happened in South Korea. For such a small country it does have the 9th largest economy in the world. May 18 1980 Gwangju Democratic movement was the start of the end to dictators in the country. It put Chun Doo Hwan on notice and the country experienced movements, and coups until he was replaced by a democratically elected president in 1988. You could also mention the Japanese takeover of the entire Korean peninsula, or the Koreans taking it back. Too many to mention in such a small country but it is worth at least an honourable mention.

It's insulting to not even mention the 1954 Guatemalan coup. It led to 4 decades of civil war and gave the CIA more confidence it could launch many of the later coups described in the video.

@Sinochu Not at all. what you are saying is a measurement of success of it. Revolution leads to fundamental changes in the country. For example, abolishing monarchy and putting in place parlamental republic. War for independence is a revolution as well. Coup is removing the label on the building: we don't like this leader/president/monarch and putting in power people we like.
