B.O. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In my thoughts always
But what you do to me
You do to her
Je te veux
Such a pretty thing to say
Before I tried to walk away
Je te veux
We’re the same mistakes
Damned to live the rule of three
Still I pray that we’ll be
Just you and me
Je te veux
Such a pretty thing to say
Before I tried to walk away
Je te veux
Never let me escape
Je te veux
Je te veux
Je te veux
Je te veux
Je te veux
The lyrics to the song "Theme" from the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by B.O. are layered with meaning and emotion. The song speaks to the idea that two people may be connected in ways that they cannot escape, even if they try. The lines "We're the same in my thoughts always" convey the idea of a deep emotional bond between the two people. However, the next lines "But what you do to me, you do to her" reveal the complicated and potentially painful nature of this bond. It suggests that whatever happens between these two people is not just between them, but affects others as well.
The repeated phrase "Je te veux" (which means "I want you" in French) adds an element of desire to the song. It suggests a longing for connection and intimacy. However, the lines "Before I tried to walk away, never let me escape" hint at the idea of being trapped or unable to break free from this connection, even if it may not be healthy.
Overall, the lyrics to "Theme" speak to the bittersweet nature of relationships and human connection. It highlights the idea that while we may yearn for connection, it can be complicated and potentially painful, affecting not just ourselves but those around us as well.

Charlie kaufman is an absolute genius. His later film anomalisa also explored relationships and loneliness extremely well too

Yes I love it too.
On a minor note, to me it portrayed dream sequences the most accurately I've seen in a film....way better than Inception did!

@kopiko thank you! A tad frustrating how many people think Tenet was the first film score to do this
