The Thrill is Gone
B. B. King & Bobby Blue Bland Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The thrill is gone
The thrill is gone away
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away
You know you done me wrong baby
You'll be sorry someday

The thrill is gone
The thrill gone away from me
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away from me
Although, I'll still live on
But so lonely I'll be

The thrill is gone
The thrill away for good
All the thrill is gone baby
It's gone away for good
Someday I know I'll be open armed baby
Just like I know, I know I should

I'm free now baby
I'm free from your spell
Free, free, free now baby
Baby, I'm free from your spell
Now that it's all over
All that I can do is wish you well

The thrill is gone
The thrill is gone away for good
The thrill is gone baby
The thrill is gone away for good
You know you done me wrong baby
You'll be sorry someday

The thrill is gone

I'm free from your spell, baby
Yes, I'm free oh I'm free from your spell

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "The Thrill Is Gone" by B.B. King and Stevie Wonder tells a story of a relationship that had lost its spark, excitement, and passion. The singer is expressing how he no longer feels the excitement and pleasure that he once felt in the love relationship. Hence, the "thrill" is gone from his life. The singer seems to have understood and accepted that the relationship is coming to an end, and there's no going back. The lyrics also suggest that the singer has been hurt and wronged by the other person in the relationship, and although he'll continue to live on, he'll be a lonely soul without the thrill of love.

The singer expresses his pain in losing the thrill and passion in the relationship, but towards the end, he acknowledges that he's "free now baby" and "free from your spell." The lyrics demonstrate the singer's journey to acceptance, healing, and moving on from the relationship, despite the pain and sorrow that it brought. The lyrics use simple yet powerful words that convey the emotions behind the lyrics, making it relatable to many people who have gone through a similar experience.

When I was a kid and blues would be playing in the house I would tell my mom I didn't like it. She told me "You will, you haven't lived long enough." She was dead right!!!! I can listen all day sometimes and never miss a blues fest. Two of my favorites!
