Airplanes
B.o.B/Forekast Lyrics

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shootin' stars
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shootin' stars
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now

Yeah, I could use a dream or a genie or a wish
To go back to a place much simpler than this
'Cause after all the partyin' and smashin' and crashin'
And all the glitz and glam and the fashion
And all the pandemonium and all the madness
There comes a time where you fade to the blackness
And when you're starin' at the phone in your lap
And you hopin' but them people never call you back
But that's just how the story unfolds
You get another hand soon after you fold
And when your plans unravel in the sand
What would you wish for, if you had one chance?
So airplane, airplane sorry I'm late
I'm on my way so don't close that gate
If I don't make that, then I'll switch my flight
And I'll be right back at it by the end of the night

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shootin' stars
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shootin' stars
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now

Yeah, yeah, somebody take me back to the days
Before this was a job, before I got paid
Before it ever mattered what I had in my bank
Yeah, back when I was tryna get a tip at Subway
And back then I was rappin' for the hell of it
But nowadays we rappin' to stay relevant
I'm guessin' that if we can make some wishes out of airplanes
Then maybe, oh maybe, I'll go back to the days
Before the politics that we call the rap game
And back when ain't nobody listened to my mixtape
And back before when I tried to cover up my slang
But this is for Decatur, what's up Bobby Ray?
So can I get a wish to end the politics?
And get back to the music that started this shit
So here I stand and then again I say
I'm hoping we can make some wishes out of airplanes

Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shootin' stars
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now
Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shootin' stars
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now

I could really use a wish right now
I, I, I could really use a wish right now
Like, like, like shootin' stars

I, I, I could, I could really use a wish right now
A wish, a wish right now

Overall Meaning

In the first part of the song, the artist is speaking about his desire for a wish. He asks if we can pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars, which people traditionally make wishes on. He repeats this request and speaks about the simplicity of wishing, dreaming, or having a genie to go back to a time that was much simpler than the current state of his life. He speaks about the mundanity of fame, the partying and the transient nature of success, and how this inevitably fades away, leaving one staring at the phone, hoping that someone will call them back. The artist then asks the listener what they would wish for if they had one chance, and repeats the request for the airplane to wait for him as he rushes to it.

In the second part of the song, the artist speaks about his desire to return to a time when he was just starting out and not concerned with the political nature of the rap game. He speaks about how he used to rap simply for the joy of it, and not for the purpose of staying relevant. He questions whether making wishes on airplanes can bring us back to a time when things were simpler, before the music industry became so consumed with politics. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, with the artist emphasizing his desire for a wish.

Oh, Anderson, I LOVE you so, but when was the last time you flew Southwest? I almost always fly SWA, and the cute antics on the intercom really aren't all-flight-long. One of the reasons I love SWA is BECAUSE of the way they spice things up. After a while, the spiel on how to fasten the seatbelt or inflate the floatation device gets oooooooold; and the flight does become the necessary evil of getting from A to B. SWA's intercom antics help make it a bit more enjoyable, a bit more fun.

AssateagueGal

i luv the flight attendent guy much more than bob

DesertDaisy Marie

I like the flight attendant’s safety rap 👍🏻

Amber Ray

"WTF B.O.B?" Lol. I wish flight attendants rapped the safety instructions!!

DesertDaisy Marie

If only the airlines I use would do their safety announcements like that flight attendant!! Sooo cool!!

Felipe Hernandez

That flight attendant was cool.

Kimyung Kim

What a buzzkill.

9starbrite3

@9starbrite3 A bit more bearable. I've noticed that people's moods seem to lighten after those spiced-up announcements, and they're friendlier to one another. If it was all-flight-long, yeah, for sure it'd be damn annoying. (And Lord knows you do a helluva lot more traveling than most of the rest of us.) But, in this particular case, on this particular Ridiculist, I'm going to have to disagree with you. Just this once.

Rachel Wong

LOL Anderson :) It's okay. I don't like rapping. Haha.

sophiadelasol

haaha i had that flight attendant that was rapping
