I don't think that song is as shallow as people make it out to be... I think it just expresses the desire that all of us have to make money. We wanna live comfortably. As far as him rapping about buying fancy things, I can see how that could make him seem contradictory... he's been on songs in the past where he talks about how money doesn't really matter.
