When my mother got fired, it felt like an insignificant misfortune for us

I still remember how she looked when she walked into the house
I can still vividly recall my mother's face when she got back home after getting fired

But still she tried her best to show what was Christmas about
In spite of that situation, she tried to create a positive atmosphere and remind us of the true spirit of Christmas

And if we wanted hot water we had to microwave it
If we needed hot water, we had to heat it in the microwave since our water heater wasn't working properly

And everyday the power cut off but we tolerate it
Every day, the electricity would get cut off but we managed to bear with it

The thoughts of all the beats I lost because I forgot to save 'em
I regret not being more careful with my music beats and losing some of my work due to negligence in saving them

I feel a strong urge to succeed and often scream at myself in the mirror to remind myself to strive for success

My teacher tryin' to get through to me because of my behavior
My teacher consistently tried to counsel me to change my behavior and get more focused on my studies

I informed my teacher that I have great ambitions and I need to work hard to achieve them

I never cared a damn thing about a college major
I never paid much attention to what field of study I want to pursue in college

I only had one need, that was a lot of paper
All I ever aspired for was to have enough money to achieve my dreams

But see I never had a thing but a lot of prayers
I never had anything but my hopes and prayers to keep me going forward

After school, open mic night, rockin' stages
I would go to open mic events after school and perform on stage

It all started from a demo, to a limo
It all started with a demo recording of my songs, and eventually grew to the point where I could afford to ride in a limousine

From a limo, to a Lambo
After the limousine, I was able to purchase a Lamborghini

All of these positive changes happened because of the place I come from, Decatur

I used to dream about these days and the things that I'd do
I always dreamed of being in a situation that was more promising and exciting than my current one

I had to make significant improvements to my life because the way it was going before was not going to work out

I used to dream shades of grey, now the sky's shinin' blue
My past life was very dull and depressing, but now there is more excitement and adventure in my life

Every day brings new opportunities for success and it seems like there is no way I can fail
