1. B5 foi uma banda de pop rock brasileira formada em 2002 na cidade de Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro. Influenciados por bandas dos anos 70, o grupo esteve em atividade até 2009.
A formação do B5 vem de infância, os irmãos Eduardo Guimarães (voz e guitarra), Bernardo Guimarães (bateria) e Lucas Leite (guitarra) (os dois últimos são gêmeos univitelinos), na faixa dos quinze aos dezoito anos, começaram estudar música aos quatro anos e já vinham tocando juntos, quando á seis, sentiram a necessidade de novos músicos para a turma. Em 2000 por indicação de um professor de violão conheceram Léo Lotti (voz e contrabaixo), que por sua vez, convidou o amigo Luis Felipe Bade (guitarra solo). Estava formada a banda, que inicialmente tocava covers de grupos de rock.[2]
Com a formação definida, a banda começa a fazer vários shows em festas e eventos em Petrópolis, cidade onde moram influenciados por bandas dos anos 70 até os dias atuais.
A exposição agropecuária foi o empurrão que precisavam, o B5 se apresentou em cinco edições, sendo que nas três últimas no palco principal. A exposição foi uma ótima vitrine, pois Petrópolis tem muitas bandas de rock mas poucos lugares para tocar. "Há eventos alternativos geralmente realizados na casa de alguém", diz Edu.
No ano de 2002, assinam contrato com a gravadora Sony Music e lançam seu primeiro álbum, auto-intitulado, de nome B5, onde a banda trata de temas adolescentes como escola, namoro, sexo, futebol e vídeo-game. A partir daí o trabalho toma projeção nacional e o B5 torna-se uma das bandas revelação do pop rock brasileiro. "Nesse álbum participamos da produção. É um CD mais autoral, com sete composições nossas, enquanto no primeiro eram somente duas", destaca Léo.
O álbum teve as participações de Blanch (da banda Cogumelo Plutão), Milton Guedes e Sérgio Dias (da banda Os Mutantes). O videoclipe do primeiro single, "Matemática", foi gravado no Colégio de Aplicação da Universidade Católica de Petrópolis (UCP), onde a banda estudava e teve a participação da atriz Stephany Brito.[3]
Segundo trabalho do quinteto que está na faixa dos dezesseis anos. Apesar da pouca idade, os garotos vão buscar influências no rock clássico setentista, além de elementos atuais, injetando peso nas guitarras e demonstrando uma alta dose de maturidade sonora. Em 2005, o grupo lançou o seu segundo álbum, intitulado Novo. A música "Só Mais Uma Vez" esta presente na trilha sonora da novela Malhação no álbum Malhação Nacional 2005.
Em 2005, a banda abriu os shows de Simple Plan e Hanson.
A banda teve seu fim no início de 2009, apesar de que a banda já estivesse com o terceiro álbum quase pronto, os contratos que estavam para fechar acabaram não sendo fechados e após esse episódio, foi havendo um afastamento gradual, assim os integrantes foram traçando caminhos diferentes, ocasionando na separação do grupo.
2. Originally signed to P. Diddy's Bad Boy label, B5 released a pair of albums in their self-titled 2005 effort, which hit the Billboard Top 20, and 2007's Don't Talk, Just Listen, both of which also went Top 10 on the R&B charts, producing singles like "All I Do," "You Got Me" and "Hydrolics" featuring Bow Wow. They hit the road on the Scream Tour IV with Bow Wow and Omarion, also performing on national TV like BET's 106 and Park and Showtime at the Apollo. B5 are currently finishing up an album which shows how far they've come, and how far they have yet to travel.
Their first single, "Say Yes," juxtaposes Patrick and Dustin's old-school street corner doo-wop harmonies with Kelly's baritone rap, bridging the gap between past and present. Produced by U.K.-based Harmony Samuels, who has worked with the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Keyshia Cole, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Fantasia and Ariana Grande, "Say Yes" shows a group which has learned its lessons and has now put that experience to good use, effortlessly taking their R&B roots and turning them into cutting-edge, modern Urban pop.
B5's patented overlapping harmonies and Patrick and Dustin's soaring falsettos create a sound that could've come from the original Motown label, where B5 members were first influenced by the likes of smoothly choreographed groups like the Temptations, the Four Tops and the Miracles as well as performers like Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and Michael Jackson.
With Kelly providing the album's rap interludes, B5 incorporates plenty of hip-hop influences.
The five brothers grew up in Kansas in tough circumstances, sharing a three-room house with their mom Adrian, grandmother, aunt and nine other cousins, before moving to Florida, then Atlanta, where they've made their home since 2000.
