Outro / Glasper
BADBADNOTGOOD Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Piano and jazz and shit, but
That – to see him actually
Do that was like, okay
I wanna play piano so since
Wait, wait, wait, one second – Alex
How do you feel about "Giant Steps?"
Fuck that shit – everyone's played it, it's
Fifty years old, it sounds like crap
Write a new song and
Stop playing that goddamn
Song i don't care if you can
Fucking modulate in it and
Change the shit up – you
Can play it in seven
You can play it in nine – it's fucking
Boring that's what I think
About "Giant Steps"
In the lyrics to BADBADNOTGOOD's song "Outro / Glasper," there is a conversation happening between two individuals, discussing their thoughts on piano, jazz, and specifically the iconic jazz composition "Giant Steps." The first part of the lyrics express admiration for piano and jazz, stating that the person was always a fan of those genres. It suggests that witnessing someone actually play the piano had a profound impact on them, sparking a desire to learn and play the instrument themselves.
However, the second part of the lyrics takes a different turn. One person interrupts and asks the other's opinion on "Giant Steps," a well-known jazz piece composed by John Coltrane. The response is dismissive and critical, stating that "Giant Steps" is old, overplayed, and sounds unpleasant. The person expresses their frustration and boredom with the song, suggesting that playing it in different time signatures doesn't make it any more interesting. It reflects a desire for musicians to create something new and fresh, rather than sticking to established compositions.
Overall, these lyrics capture a conversation between two individuals who have differing views on music, expressing their personal preferences and frustrations with the jazz genre, and particularly with "Giant Steps."

@aynism Definitely. I saw his trio last year and have the Experiment coming up in November. Chris Dave is an insane drummer. The whole show I was torn at who to watch, him or Robert.
