Face to Face
BEDROOM - Daft Punk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What's going on? Could this be my understanding?
It's not your fault I was being too demanding
I must admit, it's my pride that made me distant
All because I hoped that you'd be someone different

There's not much I know about you
Fear will always make you blind
But the answer is in clear view
It's amazing what you'll find face to face

I turned away 'cause I thought you were the problem
Tried to forget, until I hit the bottom
But when I faced you in my blank confusion
I realized you weren't wrong, was a mere illusion

It really didn't make sense
Just to leave this unresolved
It's not hard to go the distance
When you finally get involved face to face

It really didn't make sense
Just to leave this unresolved

It's not hard to go the distance
When you finally get involved face to face

Overall Meaning

In the lyrics of "Face to Face" by Daft Punk's song "BEDROOM," the singer reflects on a situation where they have realized their own shortcomings in a relationship. The opening lines suggest a moment of self-awareness and an acknowledgment of their own faults, admitting that their pride and unrealistic expectations have caused distance between them and their partner. This introspection sets the stage for the rest of the song, as the singer grapples with their own emotions and perceptions.

The singer highlights the impact of fear on their ability to truly see and understand their partner. They recognize that fear can cloud judgment and hinder communication, leading to misunderstandings and conflict. Despite this, the singer suggests that the solution lies in confronting these fears and facing their partner directly. The phrase "It's amazing what you'll find face to face" implies that true understanding and resolution can only be achieved through honest and open communication.

As the song progresses, the singer recounts a moment of realization where they had blamed their partner for the problems in the relationship, only to later understand that they were projecting their own insecurities onto the situation. This shift in perspective leads to a newfound clarity, as the singer sees that the true source of the conflict was within themselves rather than their partner. This revelation challenges their previous beliefs and forces them to confront their own misconceptions.

The final lines of the song emphasize the importance of resolution and active participation in relationships. The singer realizes that leaving issues unresolved only perpetuates the cycle of misunderstanding and distance. By actively engaging with their partner and addressing the underlying issues face to face, they can bridge the gap and move towards a healthier, more connected relationship. Ultimately, the song conveys a message of self-reflection, growth, and the transformative power of honest communication in fostering deeper connections with others.

Okay, you all have your own opinions on this, and here's mine.

Yes, it's incredibly annoying that daft punk doesn't play live anymore. So what?

How would you feel if you spent your entire lives in careers in music building up the electronic music scene, and finally deciding to put things to rest, or at least to take a break after 20+ years, only to have two random strangers buy some cheap helmets and become you, AND steal all of your credit, your songs, your fame..

What is this doing, if anything?

Repelling the real Daft Punk from continuing.

"-What's next?"
"-World domination."

If you were true Daft Pun fans, you would do this crap at comicon or something.

But playing LIVE?

Getting PAID?

You may just as well be the reason as to why they don't play live or release songs anymore.

That's one thing Daft as Punk has done successfully.

Thanks.
