Is It True
BEDROOM - Tame Impala Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We were hangin' in the morning
Feelin' all different kinds of things
We were talkin' about everything
From the past to the happenin'
We started talkin' 'bout devotion
The kind that goes on eternally
And I tell her I'm in love with her
But how can I know that I'll always be?

She just said, "Is it true? Is it true? Tell me now"
It's a promise I can't make and I won't validate
Was I in some kind of mood? I don't know, I don't care
Now I'm sleepin' in my room, here I am, back again
She's in my

I was happy just listening
No intention to be mentioning
We started talkin' 'bout the future
'Bout the notion I was motioning
I'm just so terrified to face up
Like any moment I might wake up
'Cause she's the only thing I think of
I told my mother that I love her

She just said, "Is it true? Is it true? Tell me now"
It's a promise I can't make and I won't validate
Was I being immature? I don't know, I don't care
Now I'm sleeping in my room, here I am, back again
She's in my
In my

I said, "We'll see"
We'll see
In my
We'll see

Oh, we'll see
We'll see
We'll see, we'll see, we'll see
See how we go
Until we know what the future holds

Ah, we'll see

We'll see
We'll see, we'll see, we'll see

Overall Meaning

In the song "Is It True" by Tame Impala, the lyrics depict a conversation between two individuals, exploring various emotions and uncertainties within a relationship. The singer describes a morning where they were hanging out with their partner, experiencing a mix of feelings and engaging in deep conversations ranging from the past to the present. They delve into the topic of devotion, expressing their love for their partner but also questioning the eternal nature of that love. This uncertainty is highlighted when the singer questions how they can be certain that their love will endure.

The partner responds by questioning the authenticity of the singer's feelings, asking "Is it true? Is it true? Tell me now." This challenges the singer to validate their love and commitment, which prompts them to reflect on their emotions and the sincerity behind their words. Despite feeling unsure and possibly influenced by their mood, the singer finds themselves back in their room, pondering the complexities of their relationship.

As the conversation between the singer and their partner continues, they touch upon themes of happiness, the future, and the fear of facing reality. The singer expresses their deep affection for their partner, admitting that they constantly think about them and even confiding in their mother about their love. However, there is a sense of hesitation and fear underlying their emotions, leading them to question their maturity and the authenticity of their feelings.

The recurring phrase "We'll see" portrays a sense of uncertainty and a willingness to let time reveal the true nature of their relationship. The singer acknowledges that they do not have all the answers and cannot make promises about the future, choosing to navigate their emotions with a sense of openness and acceptance of whatever may come. The song captures the complexities of love, vulnerability, and the unknown, ultimately leaving the future open-ended and up to the journey of discovery and understanding between the two individuals.

Man the drummer Kevin Parker is so good. I also love their guitarist Kevin Parker, but while the bass is pretty good and Kevin Parker is very talented. The vocals by Kevin Parker are the best part by far.
