The Walk
BEDROOM - The Cure Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴
Then ran until I burst
I passed the howling woman
And stood outside your door
We walked around the lake
And woke up in the rain
And everyone turned over
Visiting time is over
And so we walk away
And both play dead then cry out loud
Why we always cry this way?
I kissed you in the water
And made your dry lips sing
I saw you look
Like a Japanese baby
In an instant I remembered everything, everything, everything
I called you after midnight
Then ran until my heart burst
I passed the howling woman
And stood outside your door
I kissed you in the water
And made your dry lips sing
I saw you look
Like a Japanese baby
In an instant I remembered everything, everything, everything
Take me for a walk
Take me for a walk
Let's go in the water
Take me for a walk
The lyrics of "The Walk" by The Cure offer a vivid and emotional narrative about a complex relationship and the intense feelings that come with it. The song begins with the singer expressing a sense of urgency and longing as they call the person they are addressing after midnight and then run until their physical limits, indicating a strong desire to be with this person. The imagery of passing a howling woman and standing outside the person's door suggests obstacles and challenges in their path, enhancing the sense of determination and passion.
As the song progresses, the lyrics describe a shared experience with this person, walking around a lake and waking up in the rain. Despite this seemingly intimate moment, there is a hint of inner turmoil as everyone around them is troubled in their dreams, perhaps reflecting the complexities and uncertainties within their relationship. The theme of vulnerability and emotional turmoil is further highlighted as the singer questions why they always cry in this way, portraying a sense of unease and introspection.
The imagery of kissing in the water and making dry lips sing conveys a sense of renewal and reconnection in the relationship. The comparison to a Japanese baby evokes a sense of innocence and purity, contrasting with the intensity of the emotions being experienced. The sudden rush of memories and emotions that come with this moment underscores the depth of the connection between the singer and the person they are addressing.
The repeated lines "Take me for a walk" evoke a sense of longing and a desire for closeness and connection. The plea to be taken for a walk, especially in the water, symbolizes a willingness to immerse oneself fully in the relationship despite its challenges and complexities. Overall, the lyrics of "The Walk" by The Cure beautifully capture the intense emotions, vulnerabilities, and complexities that come with being in a deep and tumultuous relationship.

02:09 - Your sister started talking at a minute after ten
So everyone jumped up
And then fell over again
In April, you can join them
And stare at me
At the ghost from your past
At the ghost from your past
Ghost from your past
Ghost from your past

This is one of the very best songs Robert and The Cure ever wrote and recorded. I never get tired of listening to it. Very beautifully put together. I got this record back in 88 on vinyl and in 91 on cd. This is one of the essential records to have in your collection. All the songs are very good. Too bad the cure got away frome playing such a pure sound.

I love this period in the cure discography, just after the depressing pornography album comes this period where they make this soft pop like let's go to bed and lovecats. I was a big fan of the cure, I was always looking for some rarities. Last album I loved was disintegration, that album is excellent. Then I just didn't understood what they did, I just stop liking what they do after 1990.

80's artists saw their selves forced to change their style at 90's, most couldn't get adapted
