It Could Happen to You
BENNY BENACK III Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Lock your dreams at night,
It could happen to you.
Don't count stars
Or you might stumble,
Someone drops a sigh
And down you tumble,
Keep an eye on spring,
It could happen to you
All I did was wonder
How your arms would be
And it happened to me
The lyrics of Benny Benack III's song "It Could Happen to You" describe the unpredictable and capricious nature of falling in love. The singer warns the listener to be cautious and keep their guard up to avoid getting hurt, implying that love can catch you off guard and lead to heartbreak. The advice to "hide your heart from sight" and "lock your dreams at night" suggests that love can be a dangerous thing, and it's important to protect yourself from its potential consequences. The verse "Don't count stars or you might stumble, someone drops a sigh and down you tumble" emphasizes that love's arrival is often unexpected and uncontrollable, and can sometimes knock you off your feet.

How did I miss this?! This is arrangement is absolutely nuts man. The groove, that ensemble work is outstanding, Bennys clean ass vocals, that sax/vocal soli from his Gentleman’s Sing competition.. All of it was top notch

Phew! I’ve probably watched this a dozen times and am more amazed with every viewing. The arrangement is a great reinvention of a timeless tune but the star of this show is Benny. He is everything that a jazz and pop vocalist should be and just keeps getting better. Best of all is that he has plenty of chops and yet it is always tasteful. Glad to see a true original talent in today’s world- keep on Singin’ and Swingin’!!
