Colours
BLOWSOM Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I guess you′ve some ideas about the fact that we're alone
I bet your green eyes hear the voice on this photograph (Ahh)
I guess you′ve hidden things and moments you didn't want me to see, mmm, whoa-oh
To keep for you that breathe, tonight, with your medicines

Staring at the pictures with the colours I was about to get her (To get her)
Staring at the window makes it better, best feeling ever (Ever, ever)
I hope you'll bring some memories of us during your way, hey, whoa-oh
To keep for you that breathe, tonight, with your medicines (Someone else knows what I mean to say)

Staring at the pictures with the colours I was about to get her (To get her)
Staring at the window makes it better, best feeling ever (Ever, ever)

You want me in the nights
You want me during the day
You wanna skip the time
I won′t let you this way
You want me during the day
You wanna skip the time
You′ll be sad anyway

You want me in the nights
You want me during the day
You wanna skip the time
I won't let you this way

Staring at the pictures with the colours I was about to get her (To get her)
Staring at the window makes it better, best feeling ever (Ever, ever)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Colours" by BLOWSOM speak of a tumultuous love affair that has come to an end. The singer believes that the person they were once involved with kept secrets and withheld certain moments that they did not want the singer to see. The images in which the singer has access to, bring a mixed sense of hope and despair. As they look at them, they recall the colours of their past relationship and the possibility, however faint, of reconciling. They long for those memories to continue living and breathing within the other person even though they are no longer together.

The chorus of the song is a repetition of the scene where the singer looks through pictures and feels abundant with hope, wishing to get the person back. The visual element of seeing colours is vital as it signifies the past and the moments and experiences that they previously had together. The singer's ability to remember and visualize the colour of those moments makes it easier to recall them, and that's the only hope they have.

In the second verse, the singer talks about how the other person still wants them back, yearning for them both in the day and in the night. However, the singer believes that they cannot skip time and return to the past. They don't want to deceive themselves or the other person. They realize that although it is painful, they must confront the reality of the situation and move forward.
